It doesn't speak of video content...does it? No confirmation yet...
  2. I don't think that there'll be DVDs coming with these releases. For Boy I could only imagine 2 concerts - Den Haag and San Francisco. Both were filmed with 2 cameras only and suffer from general darkness. Also, in SF the houselights went down for a while leaving the stage in total darkness. I don't think the band sees these shows as good enough for an official release...

I would love to be wrong on this, though.

I agree...and it kinda sounds like a "too good to be true" thing...can't happen
  4. well, b-sided and rarities can do the job as well. the other news that the guys are back in the studio are also good.

    Boy, October, War: Remastered
U2’s first three albums have been remastered and will be released by Universal on July 21st.

Following the remastered release of The Joshua Tree last year, Edge has overseen a similar remastering of Boy (1980), October (1981) and War (1983). All of which have been remastered from the original audio tapes.

Each album will be released as a standard single disc, a deluxe double version including a disc of b-sides, live tracks and rarities, and an LP version pressed on 180gm virgin vinyl.

The packaging on all three titles has been restored and expanded, with new liner notes for each record, previously unseen photos and full lyrics. More details as we get them.

Sounds good, but perhaps a bit of a fuss over nothing...? I mean yeah, the JT re-release was a good idea because it's one of the greatest albums ever released, but argh...I dunno. Just seems like milking everything for all it's worth, perhaps? And I mean, re-mastering just makes it sound a bit clearer - is it REALLY gonna be that different/ Hmmm...I'd be more interested if they released an album with them actually re-recording stuff, e.g. the earliest stuff, or all the songs that Bono's saying were left unfinished like Bad and Pride, or reworking Pop etc.

...AND GETTING THE NEW ALBUM OUT! lol.

That said, I'll still no doubt get hold of them all, plus Slane and Chicago DVDs lol...

The UABRS DVD will be worthwhile should there be one, because I think there should be a DVD from every era to capture the moment, as it were, which begs the question - what about TUF?

One could only hope that the missing songs from Dortmund could make an appearance and we'd get a DVD of that entire show.

    That would be pretty cool

That's how much power the record companies have over us--they know we'll grumble about shelling out money for stuff we already have, but we'll buy it anyway, just to have it (I haven't even listened to my re-mastered JT CD yet). I wonder who's idea this really was to remaster everything--the band's or McGuiness'. If it was the band's, McGuiness probably really milked it and propositioned it for all it's worth, like you say.

If I do buy them, certainly I'm going to get the deluxe editions. I'll have to know what sort of extras they'll come with--I've got all the B-sides, so essentially I'll be paying for Edge's linear notes.
  10. I'm really impatient for all the remastered stuff ! woohoo
  11. So here we go again with the sell out and cash cow argument...

I wonder what equipment you guys use to listen to your CDs. The sound quality of the early releases is way below today's standards, so a remaster is really appropriate.
You even get the choice to buy the remastered album alone or a package with Bonus Material. Can't see a rip off or sell out. I would follow that argument if they would re-release those albums unremastered and with one single 'rare' track added. But they don't.
  12. In the words of Liam Gallgher:

"I'm not saying it's good for you to go and buy it, so if you want to go and buy it, then go on and buy it, but if you don't want to buy it then I don't give a f#$k."

    I guess this translates to:

If people want to go out and buy the remastered early U2 albums then they will. If they don't then they won't.

    End of debate...
