1. Hi, quick question

I found an ipod the other day but when I connect it with my computer, it says: doesn't recognise USB. It seems I need to instal an ipodrelated program to use it. Prabably a dumb question but can I find the program somewhere without having to buy an ipod? Or is there a way to use the found ipod without the program?

    Thanks in advance

You really should return it if you can. But if the USB connection (depending on what kind of USB ports you're using - 1.1, 2.0, powered, hub?) isn't recognised then that's likely why it's been thrown out or not cared for - does it actually even work properly? You need the USB driver for it - and if you've got that, then you need iTunes to initialize it.

It doesn't have a name or phonenumber or anything on it, that's why I want to try to connect it, to see if I can find information on it to return it to the rightful owner. I don't own an ipod myself so I don't know that much about it or how to work with it. it looks like a plain USB, just a tiny little bit bigger (no screen or anything). When I connect it, the computer can't 'read' it even though I have iTunes...
  4. yep just go grab itunes from apple.com/itunes then plug the iPod in and if that don't work then yo have found a dud it would seem

    a dud?

I also get a warning saying the devise has caused an 'interruption' and is not recognised by windows
  6. this may be irrelevant to the topic, but where did you find it?

on a street in my hometown, near the swimming pool, could be anyone's really. (although I doubt it's yours since you live a couple of 1000s of miles from here )
  8. When you first connect an iPod, isn't it automatically formatted to a specific OS?

Screenshot of mine and beside format, in the red box, it says windows. Perhaps this user is formatted to mac and that's why windows encounters an interruption?

You're right, it's probably formatted for mac.
  10. This sounds like an iPod shuffle, Mk. 1

    Does it look like this?:-

You should be able to format it for windows; trouble is it will lose any information on it. Might work for you though then
