    You asking me or Nikki?
  4. Anyone.

Are there different types of vets? One's that deal with farm animals, and others that deal with domestic pets. Dan what would you have done if u didnt make it as a vet or a medical professional? Seems a bit random but I would have thought a mechanic, seems as cars etc have internal systems like livestock.

Over here in NZ, you get taught every direction you can go in Vet, both farm stock and domestic pets, after that you can then choose to specialise in large animal or small animal, depending on what you like, also we have equine specialist, they earn the big bucks, when it comes to the thoroughbred and racing horses.
  7. No offense against you personally but I hate vets with a passion. When I was young we took one of our cats to get fixed by one, and he botched it, and she died of internal bleeding severael days later.

    In that case...

It's not the only place I've inserted my arm in a cow (and horse and sheep) it has to be said...

Yes. Many vets specialise. My thing is small animal surgery, but my practice is mixed, meaning we see and treat all species (domesticated at least). Some of my colleagues favour large animal work and will do all day on farms etc. I just see them at night or weekends when on-call - ie usually for calvings/lambings/prolapsed uterus/caesarians etc.

Honest to God, I have no idea. It;s a cliche but I've wanted to do this since early school days. Never contemplated anything else. Definitely not a mechanic I'm afraid, I'm clueless with these things!!

Opinions dont bother me, and im sorry about your loss
But you can't blame all vets for what happened to your beloved cat, things happen and im sure he/she did all he could to save her. it is very upsetting though i know

Very sorry you had such a terrible experience. Was it definitely his error, as these things can happen occasionally? There's never any 100% guarantees with living tissue. But mistakes can be made too...

To hate all vets based on this experience does seem a little harsh however.

Such a sweeping generalisation is not merited nor wanted, that's just my opinion. As an animal lover I am also sorry for your loss. But that is life as they say,I had a cocker spaniel that one day just coudn't move, stiff as a board she was.Took her to the vet "old age" came the reply, she was 8 years old,not a chance.Died Boxing Day night 1993,right after Sky 1 showed Sydney 93 as it goes, there's irony for you. What did she die of ? Rat poison in dirty rain water she drank from the field where I took her for a walk. The vet in question ? I wouldn't use anyone else, used him for over 22 years all told and won't go anywhere else, great fella. But hey,we all have experiences in life that develop our opinions, and if that's yours of the vet world then I respect it.Don't agree with it,but I respect it.

I'll get off my soap box now..........
