After a while the 2-note riff thing gets a bit tedious for me - it's not a favourite of mine, let's say that much lol...
  2. no prob! man that was a long time ago too lol

Exactly. I couldn't put my finger on who it was that it sounded like before.

    Um Hm
  7. its very good, it just need some repairs.... to take it to the next level
  8. Even though a bit of work could polish it up, I really like this early version.
It has that 'first stroke' and 'sketch' feel of early, early U2. The song has a beautiful reaching feel to it. It captures just a fantastic moment between the chemistry of the four, you feel like your listening to magic, like you've come across something that, even if its not yet finished, is on its way to something extraordinary.
The big drum sound, the tragedy hidden somewhere in the guitar, the relationship between the singer and the music...its all there. I think there is some serious potential here for a heavy contender in the U2 catalogue. The final product might be fantastic, but I think I'll occasionally come back for this version because it seems to have a beautiful promise in it.
    Does that make any sense?

And as for that comment on the two notes getting annoying, these guys are the ones who capitalize on making as much from as little as possible. I will Follow anyone?
  9. I can't say one bad thing about this song. i'm in the "omfg" camp lol

IWF is not 2 notes all the way through lol...2 different kind of songs for me, IWF was born during the new wave punk era, it's in your face music - I remember Bono saying it came out of trying to beat something out of the guitar like hammering a nail or something. I dunno, I just don't like Mercy that much - it really isn't anything special for me. Each to their own though

Seems some like it and some do not. Some like the music but not the lyrics. Some the reverse. I like the song a lot. I've told Bono, Adam and Edge as much during the last tour. I'd asked Bono if they'd play the tune, during the last tour. (that conversation taking place in San Jose). Bono said no. He said they didn't feel it was finished. I like what they have thus far. That said, Native Son is great but the lyric and such is better on Vertigo. So maybe they will make Mercy and make it that much better... I might have completely different lyrics and a different title. Time will tell.

All fair enough points, although just don't expect me to start liking it any time soon
