1. I have opened winRAR, and I can view the songs in there, but when I try to do the same just by going through the folders, I can't open the songs. I double click on the EFW file and nothing happens, where as if I double click on it in winRAR the songs open.... the boot i downloaded is the 27-11-2001 kansas city bootleg.

    any help is appreciated
  2. Where you can see the file name - example 2001_00_00_Kansas_City.efw, change that efw part to zip, so it reads:

2001_00_00_Kansas_City.zip. Now try re-opening the folder and see what you get.

You don't happen to have Computer Associates (CA) installed, do you? Sometimes, if it thinks that it's a virus or trojan or likewise (which potentially .zip and .rar files can be), it renames it to .efw in order to stop you opening it on accident. But because it's coming from the Bootlegs, I would guess there wouldn't be anything wrong with it - and Windows doesn't read .efw files by default -first time I'd heard of them, actually - but I know you can just open it usually and extract from there.

If you're worried you can do a scan on the file. But make a backup first of the file in case something goes wrong.

Remy or one of the others (I can't do it) might want to add a comment if you say what parts of the file are .efw files.
  3. trying it now, dont think i have CA installed.

    you sir, are a legend

    it worked. thanks a lot!
  4. Awesome to hear.
  5. I will post here my question, to avoid a brand new topic.

What the damn hell is a MPC file?? Last sunday I went to a friend's and I got some of that files on a Bob Dylan compilation. WHow can I re-encode them, or at least get decent codecs?? I've google-ed them and I havne't found anything worth.

It can be a Microsoft Calendar or something called Musepack (I have heard of it in a previous life, but apart from that...)

Aaaaaalright. It was that Musepack stuff. Found codecs for Nero already, thank you Drew
  8. I've got anotehr minor question... with the bootlegs is there anyway I can sort them into the download services? Because I now have to wait another 70 minutes before I can download a boot from rapidshare.... so I only want to see megaupload boots. Is this possible or is it hit and miss?
  9. It's hit and miss, unfortunately. Some bootlegs are on Megaupload, some are on Rapidshare and some on both. It's a pain waiting 70 minutes if you have to but at times you just have to twiddle your thumbs or grab a cuppa. Here's how to bypass it if you'd like to try (though Rapidshare has updated it's internal scripting, so it might not work anymore).

Go to Network Connections on your Desktop if it's there, or go to Control Panel in Start.

Then > right-click Local Area Connection > Properties > Internet Protocol (TCP / IP) > Properties.

If Obtain IP address automatically is selected you will have to wait. If else turn off your modem and on again, then you may be lucky.

The Obtain IP address automatically can be bypassed if you want by restarting the PC - sometimes that works, sometimes not.

I'm off to some other place, but let me know how it went so others can use it as well.
  10. im going to ask a question now....what are codecs and how can you use them? or how can they be used with media players?

Codecs (in the modern, software sense) encode a stream or signal for transmission, storage or encryption and decode it for viewing or editing. This is why CoDec actually stands for Compression-Decompression. The files are compressed, or encoded. Then they're decompressed, or decoded to play. It's like a DVD player where even though the DVD is copy-protected, it can still play because it has the right codecs and the keys to bypass the protection (which in a case of codecs, doesn't really matter).

The examples of codecs you might find are:

Audio: MP3, WMA, FLAC, SHN, OGG, APE, MP4
Video: H.264, MOV, DivX, MPEG, MPG, WMV, AVI

So you would 'plug' the codecs in (virtually) or installing them and the media player (be it WinAmp, Foobar, Windows Media Player etc) would see the codec and then allow all files like that to play.
