    The booze/smoke had some effect but I think the main thing that gave him the voice problem was the overuse of his voice, all the straining on Lovetown did a lot of damage on his voice.
    The difference of his voice 1989/Early 1990 to his 1991 voice is huge, which shows that LT tour did alot harm on hus vocal Chords.
  4. Random thought and not sure where to ask but... Was there a live version of New Years day that had just the edge playing piano for the intro, can't find it anywhere, if it even exists.

    They maybe removed it because he was worried about getting a hard time of Ali lol.

    Good point. I find it odd when people talk about his vocals on Lovetown being so great. He was clearly straining and as you said, most likely did some permanent damage.

    On a side note- When he lost his voice in Berlin he sounded dry as hell. The flying and the climate controlled environment is pretty awful for your vocal cords as well.
