    Good point. I find it odd when people talk about his vocals on Lovetown being so great. He was clearly straining and as you said, most likely did some permanent damage.

    On a side note- When he lost his voice in Berlin he sounded dry as hell. The flying and the climate controlled environment is pretty awful for your vocal cords as well.
    Lovetown and previous tours he strained his voice as he hadn't had proper vocal lessons it might sound good at a gig but it made him use his voice in a more measured way during Zoo TV and other tours as he could never have continued singing that way without doing serious damage . I don't know when he got vocal lessons but certainly post 2000 he started singing in a more controlled way without doing too much damage.
