In 2009, U2 approached NASA (America’s National Aeronautics and Space Administration) with the idea of incorporating dialogue between the band and the crew aboard the International Space Station into concerts on the U2 360° Tour.
The astronauts from Expedition 20, the crew on the space station at that time (no doubt a thrill-seeking group themselves), agreed and a partnership was born.
Bill Gerstenmaier, NASA's associate administrator for Space Operations, said, "Working with U2 is atypical for NASA.
"By combining their world tour with the space station's out-of-this-world mission, more people - and different people than our normal target audiences - learned about the International Space Station and the important work we are doing in orbit."
To commemorate their collaboration, the Irish rockers created a video and presented it to NASA. Jointly, the space organization and U2 have just released the video to the public here.
