Pacifists?? They could have announced it better, but who cares. It is awesome that they will have their own station. It's long overdue. Now they should post shows on nugs
  2. There are too many ‘apologists’ in this forum for the band ! Can you not see that ‘again’ it was a shit case of ‘PR’ and ‘again’ they are ripping their hardcore fan base by making you charge another subscription, they can do no wrong in some eyes can they !

Far be it for the ‘twitter verse’ to be the guide or current mood for society but head over there and read tweets from hardcore fans to part timers the majority expressing that this was a shambles !!

You know that U2 isn't touring to "drum up interest in the brand", right? They're touring to play to audiences they haven't played to in a while (or ever) - who have really been enjoying the shows they've been able to see. This is something that a lot of U2Start members seem to forget, whether it's in conversations like this, or about setlists, or whatever. U2 doesn't owe you jack shit, whether that be a new album, a setlist change, or whatever you might've been expecting of this announcement. Be thankful that these guys are even still out there breaking their backs to play for their fans...

Get out of your bubble and realize that U2 don't exist to please you, or the people in your social network.

EDIT: Sorry Remy, just saw your post.

  4. Because their contract told them to. I doubt they would have done this 2019 tour if LiveNation didn't push it.

Do you really not think U2 of all artists are in a position to do what they want at this point? I'm not saying they don't have a contract and may be obligated to play shows, but they obviously wouldn't sign a contract they don't want to at this point - they don't NEED anything anymore.

I saw this same theory about the 2017 tour and now it's being peddled out for this one too? Lol.

  6. I mean the last contract they signed was before 360 - that hasn't expired yet. I agree they don't need anything anymore. They will probably sign a smaller contract next year purely for that reason.
  7. No they aren't. They are a corporation and are tied to contracts that greatly overrule their artistic caprices.
  8. People need to realize that the 4 members of U2 are the face of a much larger business. They have employees. They have contracts. They have bosses. It’s not as simple as “oh the 4 members of U2 have made enough money to last the rest of their lives, might as well quit.” The U2 corporation won’t make any money if they spend years dicking around in France. The game has changed.

They’re still artists, and I believe they care about their music and their fans more than most big acts do.
  9. It is a large responsibility to have others livelihood dependent upon you.
  10. I don't know. I'm not denying that U2 have obligations, but I also don't buy into this notion that "they're touring because Live Nation is making them" - and not simply because they want to be doing it. I don't buy that U2 is going backstage saying "fuck I'm ready for this to be done". Sure they signed a contract and sure they have to fulfill the obligations of that contract, but they signed it knowing what they were signing up for, this ain't their first rodeo.

It all comes back to a subset of U2 fans who seem to think they know what's best for this band and they should be giving the orders lol. "No Sirius station, we want a new album, and we want it to be Passengers 2". It also doesn't help that these fans are negative and whiny as hell and it seems to be rampant right now (I say this as I'm whining about the whiners). It's getting annoying coming here and only seeing complaints.

  11. Yes they have employees. But some employees such as tech crew and just tied down to U2. When this tour is over they'll go work for someone else.
