    ( ** ) This clip was filmed on April 27th - a whole day ahead of the two proper shows (Apr 28th and 29th). They just invited some fans to fill up the GA and make it look like a proper concert. Apart from that, the gigs were allegedly recorded too as a rehearsal for the upcoming Chicago gigs, but I don't think they ever intended Vancouver to be released.
    I was lucky enough to get in to the COBL shoot. Was there a day early for the 28th show and I think I had to meet at the venue to trade tickets with another fan. Didn't know about the shoot, saw the line, and was like "Yep, I'm in". My buddy with me for the show decided to go see Vancouver instead. As a twist of fate, the girl I traded my tickets with got pulled on stage for One on the 28th, which was cool to see.

    As long as the girl wasn't up on stage for Yahweh on the 29th that's all that matters

    How many people do you think there were really in the 27th shoot? U2gigs says "a few thousands" but they usually let in a couple of hundreds for that type of things. So I'd be surprised if you were "a few thousands".
  6. Interesting insight by Sherry on FB (making up a lot of details aka U2 didn't rehearse in Vancouver for 3 months, lol), but at least she mentions the attendance to the COBL shoot was around 5K.

    That's tough to say because it certainly felt like that. We only filled the arena end with the stage, so probably each row on the reserved seating had maybe 150 people end to end, and like 20 rows, so that works to 3000. They did 7 takes however and they moved us around a lot. I think the first I think 4 being in the reserved seating, then 2 on the outer ellipse, and then last one in the ellipse. Where this all falls of the tracks however is that I do recall I think EVERYONE (see what I did there ) fit into the Ellipse cause we got the 3 song set at the end. Also as an added bonus, we got the ONLY record of 'Hokey Pokey' to date Being 15 years ago, it's likely it was near the 1000-1500 mark and they were very creative with how they moved us around. I may be wrong about whether we were all in the Ellipse, and in fact as I finish typing this, I may have been on the outside of the Ellipse. Either way, felt like a cool club gig to the All Because Of You / Vertigo / Sometimes as a treat for waiting out the day. Outside of the Hokey Pokey moment, there was no band / audience interaction as I'm sure it was all business.

    They needed to fill up the floor for the shoot. So they needed quite a few people. I did a lot of research for U2songs when we launched the video section and we were told by the filmmakers that it was 4000.

    The official promo video for “City of Blinding Lights” was filmed by Alex Courtes and Martin Fougerol at GM Place in Vancouver, British Columbia over two days, April 27 and 28, 2005. Members of the public were invited to take part, and 4000 fans were allowed into GM Place for the shoot.

    The video features U2 on the Vertigo stage performing “City of Blinding Lights.” It incorporates footage shot on the closed set as well as actual Vancouver concert footage shot the following night. The video shooting was announced at 1:30pm, and at 3:00pm wristbands were distributed to 4000 fans who were let into the building at 7:00pm that night.

    U2 took the stage at 8:20 and ran through a number of renditions of “City of Blinding Lights”, as well as the “Hokey Pokey” and finished with a mini concert of “Vertigo,” “City of Blinding Lights,” and “Sometimes You Can’t Make it on Your Own.”

    The audio for the video is an alternate version of the song, with a significant amount of crowd noise mixed into the song at the start.

    The video for “City of Blinding Lights” was circulated for play on May 30, 2005. u2.com made the video available to subscribers on June 2, 2005.
