  1. The Bono-forgetting-the-lyircs point is a very valid one. Maybe he forgets, however, because all of the stimuli going on around him during the show...he has to run all over the place, worry about retracting screens coming down over his head, negotiate moving bridges. etc, etc.... Also, Eddie Vedder must have a much better memory that Bono as he seems to know/remember the lyrics to every song Pearl Jam has ever written!

U2's soundchecks have almost never seemed to serve the purpose of practicing music, once the tour has gotten underway, but to work the stage through various elements of the show and make sure everything is in sync. A stripped back show=soundcheck REHEARSALS of whatever they might want to spice things up with.

    I feel that their brains are just far too "complex" for it though...
