  1. Maybe the two of us have to face that these 50 year old dudes are more modern than we are... haha. I think if they're doing something with that guy, it's gonna be good. U2 never gave me a reason to think otherwise. Achtung Baby was something completely new, probably picking up stuff from genres many U2 fans disliked. Maybe this will be somewhat similar.

    Or this is just a false rumor and it's something completely different. Maybe U2 are teaching him how to write songs.
  2. I think the band may just be looking at other songwriters for ideas and inspiration. Based on "From The Sky Down," it seems like U2's songwriting process if pretty tried and tested. The only things they look for in other writers is themes, so maybe that's what they're looking for.

    I can hardly imagine U2 selling out for a songwriter. Even though No Line On The Horizon was a "weak" album in the eyes of some, it was their album. They owned it.

  9. I know it's been 3 years since No Line, but does anybody else feel like they can wait a bit longer? To me it feels like U2 JUST got off the road still, and that asking for music at this point would be early or something. I know it shouldn't take years after a tour finishes to write 11 songs, but I dunno. As with anything else, especially U2, these things take time. Look at The Killers, they haven't been on tour since like 2010, and haven't released an album since 2008, and there still isn't any concrete word from them when we'll hear from them next. I feel like at this point I'm still enjoying a little bit of a break from U2.

    No a new album couldn't come sooner imo. They average about a 3-4 year break. End of the year would be a good release date for me. They're not getting any younger so the more albums of high quality they can produce before they throw in the towel the better as far as I'm concerned. If you look back at their early days and even into the early 90's, they were pretty quick follow-ups. They boast how they have all this unused material now. Well let's see it. I don't think they should feel obligated to quickly follow the new album up with a tour straight off the bat. They can let it go a while if they want and maybe tour on second quick follow up album.

    I was genuinely surprised when I heard that U2 was back in the studio. I know they typically have 3-4 years between album releases, but I don't think any of their tours have been as demanding as 360. I think their Vertigo Tour comes close because they added tons of extra dates when they cancelled and they kept transitioning from arenas to stadiums, but the duration of 360 was twice as long. While I want them to keep producing new material, they should have time to recharge their own batteries, spend time with family, etc, etc. But if they are able to find that happy medium between music, family, and activism, then they are even greater than I imagined.
