  1. I've given enough 2 cents around here to make me look like a pretentious prick, but here I go again.

    Do you really think U2 would release an album that would be played in clubs? And even so, do you think it would sound that unlike U2? If they ever released what they dubbed a "club" album, it would probably sound even less clubbier than Pop. They probably just mean rhythmic music that has a dance feel rather than a rock song like Breathe.

    Besides that, I really doubt they ever would anyway. I have a feeling Larry and even Edge would have a hard time making a club album when they know it's just something U2 isn't at this stage, at least if we're talking straight dance techno-pop stuff. I have a feeling all of those ideas we heard during the 360 tour were thrown by the wayside once they started seriously working on the album. In terms of actual separate albums that each have a distinctive feel, I think they'll release an album with their best work from the past 2 years that are cohesive enough to make an album.

    Then again, I could be completely wrong and we could be in for the most commercial U2 album yet. That being said, U2 have always been about adopting what's current and making it their own. If you need any reassurance of what I mean, just look at what many consider to be the peak of their career, Achtung Baby.

    I'll reserve judgement until I've heard it... With Achtung Baby they were also bowing a bit for the changes in the musical world.
  3. I like most genres. I enjoy listening to Skrillex' Bangarang just as much as to Dave Brubeck. I don't have high standards, but I know U2 have high standards. No matter what kind of album they release, I will probably like it.

    Dance music is overrated.

    Trip-hop is not.


    But you never know, they might surprise us. With relation to Achtung Baby - it's got a more industrial-style to it and had to adapt to the changes. They didn't have to, in all reality, but to stay relevant (and after how R&H was received) it was important for them.

    Honestly, I don't even believe in the term "relevant." It's a 100% opinion not based in any facts. I want a good album with the best songs that they have. I don't care if it hits #1 or #84. I want to like it. I love NLOTH, but rank it just above October and Passengers as my least favorite U2 albums. Just thinking about it, when your least favorite albums by your favorite group are this good, there's not too much to complain about!!!

    Thoughts on the next album. They could likely become even more "relevant" by doing something nobody has ever done. Instead of waiting 2-10 years to do a deluxe release of the album, just release it that way to begin with.

    Make the usual one disc standard edition with the best songs from every session...Rick Rubin, Danger Mouse, Red whoever, Will I Am, etc. A 70-79 minute disc of the absolute best. They don't have to have a cohesive theme, just the best songs.

    Then take the unprecedented step of releasing the Deluxe Version in the maddest, most ridiculous fashion ever....Release it the SAME DAY as the Standard Album. The standard 1 CD version could be $15 or whatever, but the 7CD 1DVD version could be $75 or so, as a nice gift to the fans.

    Make the Deluxe Version 7 CDs and 1 DVD with the original album, and make 6 of the discs full of the album demos and include many songs not on the album. You could see the entire evolution of the Album with maybe 3-5 takes of each song on the album revealing the entire evolution of how the songs transformed from rough demos to the finished songs.

    This would be a groundbreaking and awesome gift for the Die-Hards, and would likely make history. The Beach Boys released a Box Set of multiple takes from their Pet Sounds Album 30 years after the fact. U2 would be doing it in real time. This is a great idea, and I know U2 don't have the balls to do it. Even if the Album sucked, it would still be fascinating, and I'd love it.

    I know they are scared of making a "Crap Album." But even a crap album full of "Wild Honey," and "One Step Closer," level songs would be ok with me. And it would be MAGNIFICENT to have 3-5 demos of each track, and all the outtakes in a huge Deluxe Edition.

    I know most of my U2 and Prince Ideas are Pipe Dreams, but they are Pipe Dreams that would be loved by many fans of the band.

    As an electronic (real) music fan, I'm with you.

    About U2, in my opinion, they shouldn't think about being relevant while creating their songs. They should care about song quality and that's it. Doing that, I'm sure they'll keep being relevant for me and for people who aprecciate good music.

    Yeah that's definitely what I mean when I bring up LEGIT dance music artists, and REAL artists in general, they need to understand that being relevant or "Top 40" comes AFTER making something amazing and pure musically.

    You're right. I meant stadium tour where I said arena tour. I make that error very often, because the biggest Dutch stadium is called the Amsterdam Arena. I believe I'm still wrong about the Joshua and Zoo tours, though...

    Whatsoever, my main point was that Zooropa was released as part of the tour, which happened to be in summer.
