1. This band needs to take it's head out of it's ass and start releasing some of the music that they have recorded over the past 6 years. Bono is worried about being relevant in today's music world but if you don't release anything does that not make you irrelevant. The "real" fans are gonna love anything this band releases so let's make the ones that wait the four years between albums happy and start making music again.

    +1
  3. Not true. I'm sure a lot of real fans (and there's heaps here) wouldn't think everything U2 ever put out is great.

Most of Bomb, ATYCLB and most of War is crap. But yes, it would be ideal for the band to put something new out. When was the last time they had a new studio recording out?

I'm gonna go with Drew and disagree with you here, I have high hopes for their next album and I don't think everything they release is amazing. Those aren't "real" fans you're describing, those are "fanboys", people who are so in love with a band they can't even think critically about them like they should be able to.
  5. that's it

even if one (like me) can be so in love with the band and still think even more critically about them right for that
  6. Sorry if my message came off a little unclear. What I meant by the statement "real" fans are gonna love anything they put out is that U2 have been so concerned about being relevant and looking the perfect album that we just want to hear some new music. I take the song North Star as an example. When this song was performed in concert during some nights on the 360 Tour the crowd sang it right back to Bono which he credited to the internet. Fans seemed to genuinely like the song so why not release it (and other songs). I am not a fanboy as described by RattleandHum1988 and I can critically think and speak to their work.

Ah, well that makes more sense. I agree that I think right now we'd be happy to hear anything, but whether we're happy with the work is another story!

Yes, indeed. I wasn't fond of the Glastonbury song, for instance. (And I'm not a great fan of Mercy either, for the record!) But I did like other new songs, e.g. Boy Falls, North Star, EBW, and other stuff that at some point leaked via youtube.

I think they've still got the potential to do great work, although I hope they won't get as stressed as they got in 2008/2008. They'll do really great work if they'll have fun while doing it.
  9. Yep. And I have a feeling Danger Mouse is doing a good job shaking it up a bit and getting them out of their comfort zone. Either way, the man knows how to make a hit, just look at his producing record.

  10. I don't think U2 will every visit any part of Asia aside from Japan and here's why. U2 is a political band. For most of their tours, there have been segments intentionally designed to bring out controversial political issues in the countries they have been touring. During Elevation, it was gun violence in the US. I'm pretty sure many gun-toting fans felt very uncomfortable during Bullet The Blue Sky. During Vertigo, it was religious conflicts, again a very sensitive issue. And for 360, it was the conflict between Palestine and Israel. Playing in Russia was a huge risk for the band simply because of the activist presence there. Playing in most of Asia would be even riskier for them, at least for the time being.

Agree with the first statement, disagree with the 2nd. Bomb and ATYCLB are my favorite U2 albums. In my mind, Pop, Zooropa, and October have several songs that I would not consider U2's best.
  11. i was pretty ironic .. you know "relevant" "music" .. selling to the masses and all the other crap that hai nothing to do with Music lead to ...
    gangnam style
