1. U2 preps for Rock Hall concert

The U2 360 tour wrapped up with tonight's concert in Vancouver, and now U2 turns its attention to Friday night's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The band may have already started rehearsing, in fact. They arrived in Vancouver a day early, and there were several reports of an early morning rehearsal inside BC Place Stadium today.

If you're wondering what to expect on Friday, this interesting LA Times article sheds some light on U2's appearance:

Bono of U2 said he is eager and even a bit anxious about his band's closing set Friday night. A still-unannounced icon from the 1960s is scheduled to perform with the Irish group, and Bono said he wouldn't mind more rehearsal time for such a special moment.

"It's not like it's on television or anything, and there's nobody else playing on the same stage, so there's no pressure," Bono deadpanned.

This page from the official Rock Hall 25 web site sheds a little more light on things:

U2 will be performing material from their vast catalog of music and will be inviting special guests onstage for never-before-seen collaborations. Check back soon to see who they'll be performing with.

As a reminder, the concerts will be shown on HBO ... but not until November 29.

I was gonna say the 60s icon could have been Patti Smith, but she didn't start until 1971.

Rock Hall 25: Jeff Beck Band to Perform in Clapton's Stead on 30 October 2009 at MSG

As announced on whereseric.com on 23 October 2009, Eric Clapton has cancelled his performance for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert on 30 October to undergo a minor medical procedure for gall stones. The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame has announced that the Jeff Beck Band will perform in Eric's stead, along with some very special guests at Madison Square Garden this Friday night (30 October).

The dedicated website for the 25th Anniversary Concerts, rockhall25.com, has the following announcement on the show update page:

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE JEFF BECK BAND ALONG WITH SOME SPECIAL GUESTS ARE GOING TO BE TAKING OVER THE SECTION THAT ERIC CLAPTON ORIGINALLY WAS ANCHORING BEFORE HIS UNFORTUNATE HOSPITAL STAY. EVERONE IS WORKING HARD TO MAKE THIS AMAZING AND TO FIT INTO WHAT IS ALREADY GOING TO BE AN GREAT NIGHT WITH ARETHA FRANKLIN, METALLICA AND U2. tHERE WILL BE SOME REAL SPECIAL GUESTS THAT NIGHT SO IT WILL BE TERRIFIC! NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN.

Eric is recuperating at home in the UK. He remains committed to his 2010 concert schedule.

Could it be Aretha Franklin (1965 - present) doing One with them? Or Jeff Beck (1965 - present)?

14 minutes to the next show!
