I'm not really excited to be honest. Of course it's still U2, but like you say its something other than a single for an album so it probably won't say anything about the sound of a new album.
And I don't really like the minute we heard from the song.
Why wouldn't you be excited ?

And this is the first official new song in 3 years, come on...
Even though it's probably not on the album, HMTMKMKM, Hands that built America, Window in the Skies, Two shots of happy, one shot of sad... Were also at least very interesting and imo pretty good songs that weren't on an album.
I don't know but in my opinion releasing a non-album song right now seems to me just a way to take time... probably a new album announcement isn't so close as we think...anyway I hope to be wrong about that!
