    Thanking Paul McGuinness


    'This week U2 finalised and signed a new management contract with Live Nation and Guy Oseary.


    The band now want to publicly thank Paul McGuinness for his extraordinary leadership, guidance and friendship over the last 35 years.


    Paul has saved us from ourselves many times over and we would not be U2 without him.

    Sometime soon, U2 will begin a new adventure around the world and we totally understand and respect Paul's desire to not run away with the circus – AGAIN.

    Perhaps more than any music management operation in history, Paul, alongside Trevor, Keryn and the team at Principle Management has always fought for our rights, for our music, for our fans and for the principles that we and he believe in. His central lesson was that if you cared for your "art", you must also "take care of business" as historically with rock and roll bands, the latter has undone the former.

    We are relieved he will remain on as the mentor-in-chief.

    We've known Guy for a long, long time, and we're excited that with Paul's blessing he's agreed to take us on. He is a brilliant man with a lot of energy, and knows he has got some big shoes to fill.'

  2. Classy statement IMO ...sums it up nicely ...I like the line " we respect Paul's desire not to run away with the circus - AGAIN".

  6. Reading U2byU2 right now, this is still quite sad in a certain way.
  7. It seems like people are interpreting this as an end of an era. But let's not forget that the end of one era means the start of another. I'm sad to see this era close, but excited to see what the future brings.

    There's really little future ahead of U2, not more than 10 years I think.

  9. If you think about it, 10 years can still mean quite a bit. From 2000 to 2010, U2 released ATYCLB, HTDAAB, and NLOTH. Given their more relaxed pace, I'm guessing we'll probably see at most two more albums and two tours in the next 10 years.
  10. I still wouldn't be surprised at all if this was their last album.

  11. Same. But if Bono's voice in Ordinary Love and the Aslan cover were any indications, I think he may be in much better shape than all of us initially thought.

    But we are basing this on the assumption that the only factor determining the band's direction is Bono's voice. If any of the other three feel like it's time to settle down, I think they'll all call it a wrap.
