I agree with the bottom line: even an album full of great songs almost certainly won't be as successful as they'd want it to be. They should lower their expectations, and just concentrate on the music. But will they?

Bono's a big ego, and they've ended the biggest tour in history. In all likelihood, it is only downhill from there - commercially, at least. Will Bono accept this? The sooner he will, the more he'll enjoy these years, I think.

This said, they have quite some music in the vault, and they'll keep writing for a while no matter what, I'm sure.

On the last sentence: if the album isn't out by the end of the year, I think it is overwhelmingly likely that Electric Lady studios, Bono's home and villa etc. will be put under siege, and eventually raided by fans, who will uncover, and publish, all kinds of recordings. So it'll be OK either way: one way or other, I know we'll all be listening to new U2 music within months

  2. I don't think this has been discussed, but BBC Radio 2 are running a poll to find the greatest guitar riff. There's a list of 100 songs to choose from featuring many artists we talk about regularly here and U2 with Pride.

  4. You can still discuss Pride's credentials against other U2 tracks
  5. I got excited that this thread was alive and then to come here and see this oh so disappointing sorry..

  6. This thread is less exciting than the New Album thread. This is usually pictures of Bono in the bath or Larry pretending to be a bouncer.

  7. Well, then... It's overrated and it's a bloody joke that it's in a best riff of all time competition instead of a song like, say, Streets.
  8. Best riff? Hard to pick just one, Plug in baby would be up there.
  9. Off that list... Day Tripper, Sweet Child O'Mine and Sweet Home Alabama - hands down.

Plug In Baby by Muse as Andrew says wouldn't be too far from these ones, it's just too great. Mr. Brightside by The Killers and by Samba Pa Ti by Santana would be fine additions to the list too.

And having Pride in there is a joke. I respect its popularity and the projection it had back in 1984 but Until The End Of The World, I Will Follow, Still Haven't Found, Sunday Bloody Sunday and Vertigo are all better and catchier riffs than Pride.
  10. More pics of U2 would be nice..
  11. Does it need to be new pics?
