1. Long live Pop and Popmart
  2. Oh it's Pop's birthday? Maybe the band can celebrate by actually finishing the album.
  3. Pop
  4. Haven't been posting lately...having a bit of a rough go with things...but Pop is probably my 3rd favorite among U2's albums...and probably my favorite to listen to on a late night road trip, where it's two in the morning, and I don't know where I'm at. Still angry that they don't embrace it for what it was. When a band looks at sales figures and popular consensus too much, it can be a very dangerous place to be. Pop is full of strong material from front to back. It took me a long time to get into Miami, and get past the annoying baw baw bu ba bup pah stuff...(which I obviously have no idea how to spell..). To this day, I wish they would have saved Hold Me, Thrill Me, and Mrs Sarajevo for it. I like long albums. And since they reportedly scrapped an entire album's worth of material...I'd love to hear it all...they could easily just release some downloads on the site...either for free, or as a choice as a subscriber gift...but I know that would never happen. I can dream...

  5. Same. Reading about that era again in U2 by U2, I can see why they still seem traumatized by the whole experience and maybe that continues to affect them when they think about what songs to pull out on tour. Still, it's definitely an under-appreciated, dark masterpiece. And as others have said, it's aged very well, musically and lyrically (apart from the cultural references in The Playboy Mansion...)
  6. I posted this on my Facebook earlier today with a link to "Mofo"

"Happy 18th birthday Pop! When people say they hate U2 I wonder what song or songs they direct their hate to. It's probably not this one and I'm sure U2 haters might not think of U2 singing a song like this. "Mofo" is a pure rocker with elements of dance and techno. If the boys bring this back for the "Innocence and Experience" tour this summer I would be very pleased!"

I REALLY want to hear this live. I just watching their MTV EMA performance on YouTube and I'm even more about it. Mofo into Iris or Iris into Mofo...or Iris/Volcano/Mofo PLEASE

I don't even think The Playboy Mansion (a song I have always been fond of) sounds that outdated!

Coke could still be a a mystery
    Michael Jackson, definitely history
    If beauty is truth
And surgery the fountain of youth...YUP

If O.J. is more than a drink- OK...outdated. What could they put here?
And a Big Mac bigger than you think- I'm still ok with this
    And perfume is an obsession
And talk showsÖ confession- Reality shows?
  8. True, I suppose. Musically it definitely still sounds fresh - great laid-back groove to it. And besides the references above, the lyrical theme definitely still rings true. I don't know if anyone has read "One Step Closer: Why U2 Matters to those Seeking God" by Christian Scharen, but his analysis of this song on pg. 139-140 makes me appreciate Bono's lyrical genius especially on this album even more. The Playboy Mansion and the Father's mansion that Jesus talks about, "driving in that pool" and dying to the old self through the waters of baptism, "it's who you know that gets you through the gates of the mansion...." Just great stuff. As is all of Pop.
  9. Despite the fact that I truly love this album, I'm still very curious if they will fully re-record the whole album for its 20th anniversary.
  10. Nah, don't touch it, ever. The re-records
on best of 1991-2000 were not great.
