Probably they're going to play fantastic in the quarter and half finals and become champions. That's the way it always goes...

It's always Holland, England, France and Spain who play beautiful soccer, but the germans and italians always win....I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!

    EDIT: Nice new avatar Harry!

Take England out of that equation, and stick someone like Croatia (speaking of the Croats, where's Yogi??! Probably dancing in the streets after today!) or Portugal, and I agree entirely lol. I wouldn't say France are exactly easy on the eye, but I would definitely agree that they're a force to be reckoned with when they're all singing from the same hymn sheet. England's forté is not beautiful football, it's direct, quick passing from back to front at pace and power - we don't have the team or the players if you want finesse and style, but we damn well pack a punch and give anyone a run for their money.

When we pick the players to suit the team rather than the other way around, it should be noted...

NB - cheers about the avatar Mark! It's probably not gonna be particularly permanent, I've got another one to be working on but I wanted something Bono-ey and epic for now (nabbed it from the Berlin Vertigo show artwork )

Lol second goal made me crack up
Ashame England isnt playing, its always great fun meeting you when we do
  7. Portugal is usually great fun to watch, too. The Netherlands can't form a team - the players fight each other more aggressively than their opponents. If they manage to play as a team they can win any tournament - just remember the Euro 1988. I admit that German football was awful looking for many years, but in the World Cup 2006 it was highly attractive. Watching the Italian team is usually torturing... at least for Non- Italians. Man, how can they play such a destructive- defensive strategy with so many top players in the team? When Greece chooses the same strategy I understand it's because of their limited player pool. But I don't enjoy watching it.

Austria played a great match today, but when Poland scored a goal it seemed as if they'd fight in vain. At least they made a draw of it.

Well, about our national squad. We had some problems with some players like Seedorf (who took the very wise decision to quit before ruining the morale) and Van Bommel. After 1988, the Dutch never played that well for years. WC 1990 was a complete disaster with Beenhakker (Polish coach now, awful results again). Euro 92 wasn't great either. WC 1994 we lost in the Q-finals against Brasil. Euro 96 was worthless and finally in 1998 we had a wonderful team again which should have won the cup. But De Boer, Cocu and Taffarel decided otherwise.

Euro 2000 was a good chance, but missing two penalties against Italy in the semi-finals won't help you. We never went to WC 2002, Euro 2004 was lost against Portugal, the same for WC 2006. I don't have high expectations for this tournament either. We have beaten Italy and the whole nation is surprised. But they say the morale and feeling in the group among the players is great. And that's a very important factor for succes. Wondering about tommorow's result though.

About today: great result from Croatia. Didn't expect them to beat Germany. But Germany will have to face Austria and they can do that. Austria isn't that great.

Yeah, I remeber '98. Then our coach Bilic still played for national team. : ))

I learned that nobody expects nothing from Croatia. In '98 nobody expected nothing and we were third. And the fact was that Croats and Dutch were better then France and Brasil.

In qualifications we beat England for the first time...and everybody says...nah, they were lucky. Ok, we beat them for the second time, on Wembley, and still nobody sees us as TOP 5 European team. It's weird...we even beat Italy two times in last two years....

But it seems it will always be this way, and this is what motivates our national team the most...they have to always prove themselves over and over again.

Yesterday...Germany could beat us, they're fantastic team, but we just didn't let them play their game, and when they became nervous, I knew we'll win.
