That's completely truth, but I mean it's unbelievable...Because of a match in Switzerland between Croatia and Turkey there are people getting killed in Holland and Germany. Doesn't make any sense to me...BTW I doesn't make any sense to me why someone would kill someone else for a game...

I get so angry by this news, shall we discuss the beauty of football and not the hooligans?
  2. Well, there's been shitloads of debate already but I'm gonna through my hat into the ring. Firstly, I think Turkey deserved to get through yesterday, they never gave up and really pushed themselves to the limit - Croatia were unlucky but they withered in the latter stages. I really enjoyed it as a game though.

However, all this news of Turkish fans being involved in fighting and fatal confrontation shouldn't affect our judgement of their football team. It's the first I've heard about fans being murdered or shot in different situations, and it's sickening to the bone, but I don't think anyone should feel inclined to wish ill on the Turkish players because their fans lost control. I know clubs get punished because of hooligan fans, but I still have issues with that - why should the majority be punished because of the minority? The so-called 'fans' who want to cause trouble are not going to be affected as a result, and when life and death is at stake, it's clear things have got out of all proportion.

Condolences to Croatia and their fans, and well done to the Turkish players

    well said, mate

and as for drawing a clear line between the so-called "fans" (who don't deserve be called that) and the Turkish (or any other) team --> I'm all for it. Such things have nothing to do with the players, and the teams. But I think that everyone of us here knows to seperate that. There is the game, the teams, the championship -- and then there are a few dumb-heads who have in no way understood that football is just a game.

Wear the colors of your team, scream with them, get emotional while they play -- and as soon as the game is over, whether you win or lose --> go party with the other team's fans and be friends. We were in Dublin during the first games. We sat together with Polish, Croatians, and Irish fans. Be nice, and you make friends. It's all just a game in the end.

That's all I have to say

    Too right

We had major trouble around here where I live in the UK (East Anglia, it's the big lump on the right hand side of England lol) in the last Euros and the World Cup because we have a big Portuguese community in the county, and obviously they knocked us out of the last 2 big tournaments, so some stupid bastards who'd drunk too much took it on themselves to go and "sort out" some of the local Portuguese. Fucking ridiculous, but there you go. The dark side of football, I guess, but it's something we have to stand up to and kick out.

Anyway, must be off for now - here's hoping for good games tonight and tomorrow without any incident elsewhere
  6. Crazy shit, there are over 150.000 people from Holland already in Basel, the place of the quarter final tonight. Basel itself only has 100.000 habitants!

It's going to be a hell of a party tonight
