I dunno, I still find it hard to believe they'd break up at this point. I feel like they wouldn't be saying things like "we love playing them" or doing these interviews if they hated each other and were ready to quit. Maybe they just don't have an answer for why they're taking a break other than "we want a break from music", because that's a lame answer. I can imagine they dislike being from home for so long, and maybe just doing things the way they're doing. If we're to take your assessment Sergio that Battle Born is their Joshua Tree (which I don't necessarily disagree with) than maybe they're in the same place U2 was in 1989 when they were sick of what they were doing, hates playing their shows, started hating their songs, hated what they'd become, etc.
Maybe they're ready for something new and they just don't know what it is yet.
A big part on U2's radical change after Lovetown was caused -despite what the band and their mgmt said/say- by the lame critics that Rattle And Hum received, and the general idea of "serious, boring band" that most of the critic and audience had. The Killers are not in that position, their latest album got excellent critics and has been really well received by their audiences, so I'm not sure if they're in that turning point or not. Anyway, if reaching their "90s" after their "80s" means a change in their current sound I'm all for it!
That's a good point, never thought about that aspect of it.
But yeah, I'm down to hear something different as well! At this point I just hope they're not about to break up though, seeing them earlier this year was one of the best gigs I've been to!
By the way, this wasn't commented at all over here, but they plaed a one-off show in London yesterday night at a small venue just to mark this 10 years stuff. It must have been pretty special although I would have been pissed to pay 48 pounds for this:
Shot at the Night
Somebody Told Me
Spaceman
The Way It Was
Smile Like You Mean It
Shadowplay
Human
For Reasons Unknown
From Here On Out
A Dustland Fairytale
Read My Mind (semi-acoustic version)
Runaways
All These Things That I've Done
Jenny Was a Friend of Mine
When You Were Young
Mr. Brightside
What Ronnie said sounds like a shot at either Dave or Mark. Dave's been the one saying "the end is in sight" yadda yadda and Brandon and Ronnie are the ones about to record more, maybe those other two guys are the ones who want a break for a while.
Mark has been the one stating more clearly that he's really fed-up with touring and stuff. I think Dave would be more interested if he put a little more into it. He is a BORING guitar player.
Shoutout to Sweet Talk and Change Your Mind for being perfect and underrated songs by them! Been listening to these for a while again. I'm definitely going and listen to Sawdust and various b-sides now
