1. I have to make two big groups:

    a) bands that I love, but which are "old" and aren't active anymore: Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin, The Police, The Beatles...

    b) bands that I love and are more "modern" and still active (more or less): Muse, The Killers, Oasis, Snow Patrol, Coldplay...

I can't say which ones I prefer because they're different. The a) bands are mythic, have meant a lot for me, their music is objectively better, and I've grown up listening to them... But the b) bands have the strong positive point that allow me to attend their concerts and enjoy their music live.

U2 has the best of both kinds. That's why I love them SO much.
  2. shit, that was great. wasn't expecting that!

brandon never fails to impress. now if we could only get U2 to see this...
  3. Ouch, that was painful. Thumbs up for trying, though.
  4. i thought it was nice
  5. It wasn't perfect, and the vocals were mostly awful... But the version itself was pretty nice, and the simple fact that a less known song of a forgotten album was performed by him is... fantastic.
  6. defo +1
  7. What are you guys talking about, he's an awesome vocalist.
  8. i know but we mean the cover of IGWSHA mate, i do love love love his voice in general though

  9. If you think that's awful, have you listened to Flamingo? There's 53 minutes of your life you won't get back.

  10. Yea, I think he is definitely one of the better vocalists around these days - his voice is quite unique as well, definitely stands out compared to the rest of the rock or indie scene.

And he has some craft to his singing, technically he might not be the best (but so is Bono). Some of his songs show great technique and nuance - where he really conveys the feel of the song eg. Human, All These Things That I've Done, Mr. Brightside, Smile Like You Mean It.

Take their stunning cover of Shadowplay, his singing suits the song even moreso than Ian Curtis!
Far more dynamic than the original, love how he sings the "to the center of the city in the night bit".

But I don't know who among his contemporaries is a better singer than him, Win Butler (Arcade Fire) no, Snow Patrol guy - no, Kings of Leon guy - no (unless you like rednecks). Matt Bellamy ( no way in hell - just cos he can do falsetto like a second rate, melodramatic Thom Yorke doesn't make him good).

Chris Martin? He's another good, unique voice but he's a bit soft and feminine.

Only one I can think of that'd be better would be Jack White, and he's all agression all the time.
  11. Chris Martin and Matt Bellamy are far better singers than Brandon. Their vocal range is much wider and their singing style varies a lot more. Brandon uses to sing as if he was afraid of his voice!! Instead of squeezing it as Bono or Bellamy do.
