    I agree, sometimes its hard to discern what the best cut of the song is. R&H is incredible, with the whole crowd singing along and what not. But put the original version on a nice stereo and crank it, that'll convince you the album version stands out more than anything else.

    And yeah, "typical Edge genius" found here--he was messing around with those chords at the soundcheck for the Hawaii show on the War Tour, and came up with this rock n roll anthem. And I must say, it truly is anthemic.

    Briefly;

    Spanish guitars (aka. classical guitars) have a wider neck and should use nylon strings for the higher strings and metal for the bass strings, whereas acoustic guitars have a thinner neck and generally use metal strings.

    That's how I understand it anyway lol

    Definitely re. the album version, it's more complete and fully-rounded (as I guess you'd expect), but it really works live when the whole stadium is singing along. I also think, like most songs, it works better the higher the key played, plus it also needs a good pace. Lovetown onwards, it seemed to start slowing down, not to mention the band were dropping the key, and it loses energy as a result. True, it's harder to sing the higher one goes, but it makes a hell of a difference. It is a U2 epic though, I think everyone should/does agree.

    Well, I have a spanish guitar and I didn't know it By the way, don't you mean that the bass strings are nylon covered with metal?

    Nice and yeah, something like that lol . I just always call them "metal" strings, although I can appreciate that it could easily get confused

  8. Does anyone know if Adam's ever used his Thunderbird live? I know it's listed in the Rattle and Hum book but the only shots I've ever seen of him with it are in the studio.
  9. Seems Adam has a number of Gibson Bass guitars that he's used in the studio, that he doesn't use live... such as the Thunderbird seen in R&H...



    He has a Thunderbird and a Reverse Thunderbird. I've never seen him use either live.

    I've seen AB studio era photo's of Adam with the Reverse Thunderbird Bass and it was in The Fly video.



    He also had the Gibson Recording Bass, used for ONE and SOMETIMES... (studio versions) that he's not used live.



    And there is the Gibson RD Artist bass, used for "Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World" (studio) but not used live.

    There are things listed in the book that were 'on tour' but not used as they were backup items that did not see stage time. The Zon Legacy bass being one of the other items.

    That was the Smile Jamaica show. So - cool - he did use it live at least at that one show.
