Electric Co. was played on his explorer for the early days. So at that time it was THE explorer song with I Will Follow. However, every song at that time was THE explorer song, that was his ONLY guitar haha. But for the War tour he switched to his strat for that song, he also switched to his strat for A Day Without Me, and maybe a couple more, I can't think right now I'm at school.
Then for UF and JT he switched back to the explorer for the early days songs. Then they were all dropped until elevation, where he brought the explorer back out. I Will Follow was played on his les paul during the popmart tour, which was weird, and it was played on his clapton strat during lovetown. Then on elevation he used his explorer for I Will Follow, and also for the vertigo tour, however he switched to his Les Paul for ELectric Co. on the vertigo tour.
Basically, he likes to experiment. If you look at the October tours, and the early days, he switched gutiars a lot between concerts. He had a gibson Sonnex, his Les Paul, his Explorer, his strat, and so on. Weird.
"I Will Follow" was played on the yellow Eric Clapton model Fender Stratocaster during Love Town tour.
Seems he had and used the Gibson Sonex for 5 minutes. I was looking at some of the 1982 Summer Festival shows... can't remember which one's where what - but one of them he used the Sonex for Rejoice and a few weeks later it was the 1975 Les Paul Custom (that was auctioned in 2007). Seems the Sonex was quickly put away once he got the LP Custom.
That said, the Sonex isn't a bad guitar. I have played a few in shops and they are a pretty good sounding and very playable guitar.
