  1. Perhaps the picture was taken at a sound check, and he was just messing around with a few things. Other than that, he had no reason to play an F# on the Explorer lol. I don't know, I could be (probably am) wrong.

    Looks to be an F (if it is truly barred at the 2nd fret. Could be the angle of the photo... if it's the 3rd fret, it's a G)

    Not sure of the show. I know it pissed down raining during Desire... continued during the rest of the show... at the opening night of Zooropa. I was there and I'm STILL drying out from that rain!

    I will have to double check a few things to be sure it it was from that show or not.

  3. I guess we're assuming in the former case it's tuned half a step down, and in the latter it's standard? But yeah, either way, interested to know what he was actually playing, because I can't see how it could be Ultra Violet, but hey ho. Oh the shenanigans that occur as a result of an innocent question

    Ha, yeah, it does look a bit soggy. Doesn't beat how wet it was when I went up to Scotland to see my 2nd favourite band Runrig play at Borlum Farm near Loch Ness, we got to the venue at 1pm (it was a mini-festival hosted by Runrig who subsequently headlined) and didn't leave till about 11:30pm (never mind getting out of the carpark at half 1 in the bloody morning), and it rained non-stop all bloody day. No joke. I've just watched the DVD of the event (by the by, to keep it on topic kinda, you'll never someone wield a Fender quite so well as Malcolm Jones. Seriously) and the memories came flooding back. Kinda like the rain. The ground had pretty much turned into the Somme by the end of the night...


  4. Judging by the outfit and the guitar, I'd 'guess' Opening night of Zooropa. I am pretty sure the picture is from 1993 and not 1992.

    Here's a picture from Zooropa in ROME. The stage clothing in the Explorer picture is similar and leads me to believe its from the Zooropa leg of the tour.

  5. Oh fuck I meant 1993, sorry!!! 19th May 1993, Zooropa Tour show in Oviedo, Spain... It rained cats and dogs all throughout the show, and there are plenty of very known pics from that concert... I'm not sure, tho, I could be wrong perfectly

    Ah yes, you might be right... could be from the 1993 Spain show. Any more pix from that show?

    Here is the setlist from that show: The only song in that setlist that he used the Explorer for, normally, was UltraViolet. Perhaps the camera caught him hitting the wrong chord? =O)

  7. This is all strange haha. My best guess is it was a soundcheck. I can't think of any song he would use that chord on. Is that the bar chord he used to use for Angel of Harlem when he used the bar chords instead of the open chords? Perhaps during the soundcheck he was using his explorer to see how it worked with Angel of Harlem. Maybe he thought it sounded nice, which would explain why he used it on the vertigo tour. I'm just thinking out loud here, but I don't think it was during a show.


  8. I recorded that today. No reverb / delay and no bass guitar until now. It starts with my GFS- equipped chinese jazz guitar (middle position) clean, next comes my blonde Squier strat (br/mid) crunch, then (neck/mid) lead, then solo (neck) - and in the end you'll hear my Gibson Les Paul.

    Enjoy. But please keep in mind that it's not finished yet.

    I not so sure that The Edge would be out there getting drenched during a soundcheck.


  12. The second picture probably isn't "Bad". The guitar in the black and white photo lookms to be the 1989 charcoal grey Fender Clapton Strat.
