1. Any news on the new equipment of Mr. The Edge in the GOYB single? What he might me using in the small solo on 01:17>01:24? I love that sound man... And what about that LOUD and big G chords that breaks into both "You don't know how beautiful" bridges???
  2. My own small tab for Edge's riff of Get On Your Boots. It's easy, I know, but I damn love that riff and I want to share it with the world xD

    e -----------------------------------------------------------------
    B -----------------------------------------------------------------
    G ----------------------------------------------------------------
    D ----------------------------------------------------------------
    A --5--3--0--3--0h5--3h0--3---3--0-----0-------------------
    E -----------------------------------------3----------------------

  3. They look like they're trying to film a new version of NYD in those rehearsals lol...

No 100% sure but sounds like the Electro-Harmonix POG is in play. One can also see the POG in some of the Fez, Morocco pictures and in the Olympic Studios shots.

That said, Mick (from U2 Recording Yahoo Group) was able to get a fairly convincing tone with his Gretsch Silver Jet and Line 6 DM4.

The are various distortions going on there. I think it can be a combination of the Line 6, Death By Audio Supersonic Fuzz Gun and EH POG for the octave distortion.

  5. The main riff effects, not to mention the riff itself, remind me of Discothéque big time - especially when Edge comes in and is playing on his own before the drums come back in, really tight tone going on, sounds like the noise is gonna burst out of the amp.
  6. It's full of crispy fuzzy goodness. What's not to like?

Although, I've already heard some gripe. But in that, I heard the same 'griping' when "The Fly" came out and later... similar folk were praising the greatness of "The Fly".

The fact that "Get On Your Boots" isn't as immediate to some, as Vertigo and Beautiful Day may have been, is a good thing. The best songs, in my view, are one's that reveal themselves over time; a new layer showing itself with each listen.
  7. I just posted it in the www.freak-alex-band.com thread but I'll post it here, too. You can answer me there if you want to, I don't want to be known as one of those who spam all over the board. But since I posted a few previews in this thread I thought I should at least let it be known here, too:

I've just finished my new CD-R. It's called "Fire and Blood", available at my website: www.freak-alex-band.com

You can listen to the opening track "Righteous at Last" for free:

Thanks for reading and listening. Enjoy!

  8. I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I'm going to be selling my MIM Strat soon in an effort to start saving up for my American Strato. I want to sell the MIM for about 350$-400$, and I wanted to see if anyone here was interested.

It has some GFS Texas 70's pickups in it, perfect for getting an early Edge tone. If you don't believe me check out my Streets and Bad videos on youtube (just search my U2start username). I'm not trying to brag, but I think i got damn close, and it's because of these pickups.

If anyone is interested, I'll be selling it after I take it into the shop for a quick checkup before I sell it. Just PM me or reply in this thread!
  9. My Digitech RP90 arrived today--what a neat little device. I'm just scratching the surface in realizing its potential (not to mention understanding how to work it). So far the expression pedal seems godly. Forget who had an RP70 and said they got a great Mysterious Ways tone out of it...but I hope in time I can too!

Jeff--you don't need to answer all or with much detail, but off the top of your head do you know what sorta effects Edge had lined up for live iterations of:

    -Hold Me, Thrill Me,...
    -Real Thing (Popmart)
    -Mysterious Ways
    -The Fly (Vertigo)
    -Mofo
    -Zoo Station
    -Lemon
    -Daddy's Gonna Pay...

That's a really important point. Noel Gallagher recently said in an interview "Don't come tell me you didn't like my record after listening to it once."

I totally see what you mean about the Fly--took a while to grow on me. And now it's one of my faves.

Edge said something about how the fuzz pedal is where rock all began. I like the sound and all, the fuzz is such a great effect. I'll be more keen to hear the other tracks foraying into newer soundscapes though.

And RE Adam's sparkle bass: I've never paid too much attention to his guitars until I saw that one. Looks really cool!

Also see Bono copying Thom Yorke in pulling out a white AC30 for his new album & tour.

= LP Goldtop. DigiTech Whammy Pedal for the intro and other pitchbending bits. I think the P70 has a "Whammy pedal effect".

    -Real Thing (Popmart)
= 12 string Ric. A bit of overdrive. DigiTech Whammy Pedal for the intro. I think the P70 has a "Whammy pedal effect". Might want to add a bit of compressor for sustain when playing the slide solo.

    -Mysterious Ways:
= 12 string Ric. Funk Wah patch on a Korg A3 is what Edge uses. Find a auto wah sound on the RP and add some overdrive. Probably want to slow the rate/envelope on the autowah to get that MW growl.

    -The Fly (Vertigo)
    = Not sure.

    -Mofo
= unsure. I'd have to feck around with this one. Definitely whammy going up 2 octaves for the pitchshifting bits. Overdrive and delay.

    -Zoo Station
= unsure. I'd have to feck around with this one. There is a setting on the Korg A3 that has basically most of what this sound comes from.

    -Lemon
= Lemon is basically tremolo set to a rapid square wave and whammy pedal up 2 octaves, that (using the Whammy on the RP) will get you pretty darn close. Add a bit of delay.

    -Daddy's Gonna Pay...
= unsure. I'd have to feck around with this one.

  12. Funny, everyone's checking out Edges gear all the time,i'm always checking out Adams gear.I'm wondering if it's a new Fender or an old one he has sent to the Fender Custom Shop.Adams tone was top notch the other day.
