  1. Pics from the BBC and gear stuff...

    Pics from BBC. Is that Indiana Jones playing bass! =O) Adam in a hat. That is different.

    Looks like Edge has a new (to him, or newly seen by us) Tweed Fender Blues Jr. amp, or perhaps he had the black Blues Junior from the Vertigo tour recovered?

    Looks like the Gretsch Country Gentleman is the guitar for "Magnificent". A Tele may have been on some of the song on the album but the solo (on the album) does sound very "Kite-like"; which was done with a Gretsch Country Gent. Also, he's seems to be using the custom made ring slide, instead of a regular tube slide for the solo on Magnificent.

    At the rooftop concert, looked like Edge was using the Tele 72 RI he had in the Vertigo video for Boots, Vertigo, and Magnificent...nice!

    Also: We can see Adam's new cabs, but where is the amp head? Backstage? Like Bono's effect chain?

    Yeah, definitely. Guitar is probably the easiest instrument to learn. Word of advice though: you will most likely not be able to play a number of Edge's guitar parts without the correct equipment and the U2 rhythm section behind you. What I mean is, even if you figure out the basic part you won't get it to sound exactly right without the right guitar, effects, amp, &c.

    If you decide to pick up guitar, the best way to improve I found was to get some music with simple enough guitar parts--Beatles, Oasis, any will do--and play along to the recordings. At the very least you'll have lots of fun

    A little question here. My dad's friend showed me yesterday a PC programme called Guitar Pro 5. A lot of useful things, plenty of songs in the songbook. How should I understand the numbers on tabs?

    I'd suggest you to start with open chords and strumming. D major, A major, G major, C major, E major, e minor, a minor, etc. Uriah Heep's Lady in Black i.e. consists only of two chords. U2's I still haven't found what I'm looking for consists of only three chords.

  9. No. He has used one in the studio but I've not seen him using one lately.

    It's the same with the HiWatt amps. He's had HiWatt amps in the BD video and used them in the studio too but I've not seen him take them on tour.

    The line shows you what string. The number shows what fret. Top string on the chord chart / tablature is the high (small) E string.

    Example: THIS would be an A chord

    e:----x----
    b:----2----
    g:----2----
    d:----2----
    a:----x----
    E:----x---

    Yep, that was the Fender Telecaster Custom.

    Edge's appears to be a 1972 original (or at least from the 1970's era) and not a 'reissue' (RI).

    Lovely guitar. Wonder if he will take it on tour and use it more? Hmmm...

    * The Edge - 1962 Epiphone Casino.

    * Adam Clayton - white Fender Precision bass with tortoise shell pickguard.

    * Larry Mullen Jr. - Using the silver sparkle Yamaha kit.

    Similar to the kit used at the "We Are One show but instead of being a hydrid of Oak Custom and Absolute MapleThe silver kit was actually a bit of a hybrid.

    - Oak Custom (24") bass drum
    - Oak Custom (16") floor tom
    - Absolute Maple (14") rack tom

    At Letterman, the drums were all Oak Custom (rack tom included)
