Just going back to an oldish thread of conversation from a couple of weeks back, I've changed my mind per the Moment of Surrender solo - I'm now agreeing with Jeff, it sounds more Les Paulish than anything

Why the change in heart? 'Cause the closest I've got to said tone (through accident more than anything) was using my Epi. LP through the MG30...

lol, I hope you're not including me in that mention of professional ears

, I'm literally just going by the random experimentation I came up with. I've heard similar tones to that of the MoS solo coming from the neck pickup of my Strat BUT like I say, I hit upon something with my Epi. LP and it's the closest I've come to the tone concerned. Either way, it's a beautiful tone Edge came up with there

Like I've already said, the only thing that I KNOW there was a Stratocaster on, was the studio (and Riad) couch.

If I remember correctly, MOS was done in one go while in Fez. Most of the Fez pics show Edge with a Gibson acoustic, Rickenbacker 330/12-string and Casino.

That's not to say that others weren't used but these seem to be the recurring guitars in the photos and U2.com vids. (along with the Les Paul Custom, tobacco Telecaster and White Falcon... the Fernando Retro Rocket being seen on a stand in the Fez pics...)

The slide solo on MOS sound very 'Kite'-like. Kite was a Gretsch Country Gent into the Ampeg Scrabler distortion. I did see an Ampeg Scrambler in the Hanover Quay studio pictures...

As far as I can remember, it is only With Or Without You.

Edge wrote and recorded "With Or Without You" with the Brooks Infinite Guitar. To the best of my knowledge, it is the only tune he's used this for.

Edge used the Infinite guitar for the live performances of "With Or Without You" through (at least) the ZOOTV Outside Broadcast portion of the ZOO tours. By some point during Zooropa, he'd gone to using an E-Bow with his Gibson Les Paul Custom.

Edge and the Infinite Guitar (Squier Strat with Infinite Guitar p'up in it.

Since the Zoo tours, it's been a succession of Fernandes Guitars with "Sustainer" pickups in the neck position.

POPMART - Fernandes Decade Elite w/Sustainer pickup. [There was one orange and one in cyan.]

ELEVATION - Fernandes Native Pro w/Sustainer pickup. [dark green metallic finish. This guitar was highly modified. The original humbuckers were changed to Seymour Duncan Hot Rails (singl space humbuckers), a new pickguard was cut to accomodate the smaller p'ups and the neck was swapped from the Native Pro (3 tuning machines on top, 3 on bottom) to the Decade Elite style neck [with all tuning machines on top of the headstock, similar to a Stratocaster]

Although he did used the Decade Elite's a few times during Elevation. Not sure if it was for WOWY or not. I think the orange was used for Discotheque/Starting at The Sun a few times.

VERTIGO - Fernandes Retro Rocket w/Sustainer pickup. [Only "Custom" thing about this was the black finish/black pearl pickguard, Oddly, the Retro Rocket isn't commercially available in black!]
