1. Which would make sense when you think WOWY follows on...and I think I can cope a little bit more 'cause it's still a slightly different guitar to a Strat. Don't get me wrong, I like Strats, but I just don't think they suit Ultra Violet...don't ask me why lol.

EDIT - another thing to note, ISHFWILF is in Bb these days, if memory serves it was A for a good while during Elevation and Vertigo?

EDIT (2) - Unknown Caller is a Les Paul tune by the looks of it #

EDIT (3) - TUF - what tuning does Edge put the old Tele. in? I'm guessing it's something like up a step so it's something like standard F?
  2. Here's what I've worked out via YouTube bits so far... more to come

21.With Or Without You - Appears to be FERNANDES RETROROCKET

22.Moment of Surrender - GRETSCH DOUBLE ANNIVERSARY
  3. TUF - what tuning does Edge put the old Tele. in? I'm guessing it's something like up a step so it's something like standard F?

Unless he's playing it diffent from before, the guitar is his own tuning... not standard or Eflat.

This from the 1985 Guitar Player magazine article:

You seem to change guitars a lot. Is this due to different tunings?

It's really because each song suggests to me a different guitar sound. The strange tunings that I have are for the lap steel and the Fender Telecaster. The Tele has a very odd one that I made up: F, A, D, D, G, D. As I was putting down some guitars on The Unforgettable Fire, I was having a little bit of difficulty coming out with something I was pleased with. So I decided as a radical change of approach to just tune the guitar up to the notes that seemed right. It was pure chance, but it does sound a beautiful chord in relation to the song. I play "Unforgettable Fire" onstage with the Tele and an E-Bow. I used E-Bow for another few tracks that didn't make the album. It's an interesting device, but it tends to make everything sound the same. So whether or not you get a nice, pleasant effect or that same whiny sound is really down to how you treat your sound after the guitar. [Ed. Note: The E-Bow is a small, hand-held electromagnetic bowing device for guitar.]

  4. Hi, guitar-mates!!

Yesterday's show was amazing, I was on the second row of the GA and I took some great (fucking great if I may say) pics of The Edge (3 meters away from my idol, I still can't believe it). I will post them tomorrow, but most noticeable news are that UV was played on a black/white Strat (Eric Clapton-esque), SBS on a sunburst Strat (used for Pride on the V Tour if I recall right) and ... =>>>> YES!!!!!!!!! I Told you all in this same thread when the album leaked out!!! I told "I'm sure that Unknown Caller is a Les Paul song"... I was damn RIGHT

Sure it was a Clapton Strat.? I mean, you were there so you'd have a better view than us mere speculators lol but the headstock fooled me first for an Explorer or something, than Jeff came to the idea that it was a Fernandes which I have to say I agree with. Get the pics up boy!

    EDIT -

Go to 4mins or so, Edge turns around and is on full display to the camera and I'm pretty sure that is a Fernandes...sexy piece of kit, but it's no Explorer

Right? Maybe. Not trying to discount your claim but understand that because he's using a Les Paul 'live' doesn't equal that was the guitar used on the album or the only guitar used on the album.

That said, it also means that it's possible that it was used for the album for at least some if not all of the guitar tracks.

From all the video that I've seen, UV was played on a Fernandes, judging by the shape of the headstock. You can see the shape of that headstock better at the last minute or so of that u2006 youtube footage of the tune. Looks the same shape as a Fernandes and not a Fender, to me.

Don't think it's a "Clapton Stratocaster" other than the black finish with white pickguard, similar to Clapton's favored combination.

Hope to see some better close-up pictures and footage to determine for certain.
  8. Well, I was there, I was singing and shouting and crying and jumping during one of my favorite songs, so as you can imagine I wasn't think "Oh, it must be some kind of not known Fernandes" hahaha... No, I simply thought "Wow, it's not an Explorer, wow, it's a black Strat", and then burst into tears because, FUCK, they were playing Ultraviolet, 16 years later.........

IN the end that is all that really matters - they are playing songs like "UltraViolet" and "The Unforgettable Fire" again! That, to me, is absolute magic!

Can't wait to see/hear the clips from show two today! Wish I was there!

I'm guessing "Drowning Man" and the acoustic-ish "Mysterious Way" might be in today? Perhaps Elevation too.

Now if they would break out "God Pt. II" and "Hawkmoon 269" - how great would that be!?!?!?

  10. No it isn't! The only reason I bought an Explorer was due to Edge playing Ultra Violet on his!

    (joke )

    Have to agree there lol...

Worth Edge playing Ultra Violet on a Fernandes and not his Explorer...

  11. They're rehearsing Electrical Storm now
