The blue Herdim guitar picks are a huge help to get that chiming Edge sound.

The amp is HUGE into getting the tones right. You could get close with Vox AC15 or the Vox AC15CC. Even if you get teh AC15CC with the green back speaker, you can have that later swapped out for a Celestion Blue and have that much better and close to Edge sounding amp.

My AC15CC had the green initially. I bought it from Mick of The Unforgettable Fire - tribute band. He'd already swapped the green for the blue Celestion.

Thanks, so even if I get a Line 13 but only a Fender or something amp, it won't sound like the Edge? What's the cheapest I can get one of them for? Is it the closest thing to an Ac-30? How well does it work if your playing non-u2 stuff (ie is it versatile or only really useful for emulating the Edge?)

And what about using your PC to do effects? Is that viable?

You can get close. But not quite there. The Vox AC30 is pretty important to The Edge. But you can get close with other Vox amps.

AC15CC with the greenback speaker is in the 500-600 range. You can change out the green back to a blue Celestion later and get closer to The Edge's tone.

M13 is a great unit and at $500.00 you will get a lot of useable Edge like tones. Including the a shimmer like sound from the Octo Reverb setting
  3. If it's $500 and does a better job than any other amp besides the ac30 I might get one. Will it be ok for other rock music? Or is it only good at emulating Edge?

I can buy an epiphone explorer for $650 AUD, can I get in cheaper or should I place the order?

Is the Line 6 pretty much the best effects solution for replicating the Edge at that price?
Can I just use some software and the sound card in my laptop to similar effect?

Should I get a m13 and get a cheaper amp like the Fenders Alex was suggesting or is it clearly worth shelling out for the Vox. How does getting the AC15 but getting a cheap fx unit like the Zoom G1X stack up to an M13 + cheaper amp combo?
  4. I placed an order for the Explorer

Now I just have to figure out what else to get
  5. Good thing, Lyndon, now I am officially jealous

  6. Good stuff man! I just successfully turned my American Strat into an Edge War Tour Strat!

Black accessories, Dimarzio FS-1 pickup, brass saddles. Now all I need is the 70's neck, and it's Edgeified!
  7. Yea, I got a clearcoat one, not the black one (i think it looks a bit hardcore).

Now I have to get an amp and an FX pedal, the problem, is I have the money and am willing to spend about $2000 all up, but my mother won't be happy lol.

She doesn't realise I have to buy an amp for it to work yet and I'm not sure how to tell her
She already disapproves of me spending $700 on a guitar, when I have no idea how to play! (she wanted me to get a starter guitar)

Hopefully I can persuade her to let me buy what I want to get.
  8. anyone know where u can find u2 songs without the drums? so i can play along myself.

Well, starter guitars are designed for people who are... starting? lol hahaha

Good luck on the persuading, I wish I had the money to even think of buying such guitars and amplifiers (persuading would be easier if I even had the money )

Oh, I only have the money cos I live with my parents (which has it's disadvantages, as u can see!) and I also don't spend much on cars, partying (or 20 different pairs of Nikes and designer sunglasses!) like many my age do.

I'm hoping I can convince her that a half decent amp will cost 500 or so. Hopefully she doesn't ask my brother who'll wonder why the hell I'm spending so much, lol.

Especially when I can count on one hand the amount of times I've HELD a guitar (nvm playing it) in my life.
  11. The guys at interference seem to think the AC-15 and a M13 make a good combo too, like u guys were suggesting.

I don't think my mum will let me buy guitar, amp and FX box at once though, so i'll prob buy a M13 later.

How do other FX boxes like the Zoom G1 Harry was suggesting or the Boss GT-10 stack up to the M13 at emulating Edge?

The GT-10 can amp model AC-30s so maybe I could get that with a cheaper amp instead of a real Vox and the M13? How would that compare?

I only recommend the Zoom G1X because a) it's very much affordable, b) it's foolproof (even I can use it and I'm not exactly Bill Gates when it comes to technology) and c) because I have experience of it. If you're really trying to emulate Edge, I'm not much help simply because I've not tried to accurately copy his sound. I come up with tones which - for me - fit the songs if I'm playing U2 material etc. Kudos to you if you want to try and become Edge (as it were) but if you are just starting out, I think it would be a wiser move to work your way up with some basic hardware to begin with, because you don't know how compatible you are with guitars. I'm just trying to be the friendly voice of caution lol
