  1. Guys, i'm selling some gear if anyone is interested. Only pedals, but I used them for U2 for the longest while. All of my U2 covers on youtube were done using these pedals.:

    Boss DD-20 (twin delay pedal)

    Boss OD-2 (Turbo Overdrive, Edge uses it a lot, used it since hte JT tour, vintage)

    Line 6 DM-4 (distortion moddeller used on HTDAAB)

    Line 6 Verbzilla (Shimmer pedal)

    Dunlop 535q Wah Pedal

    Ibanez TS-9 (Edge has used this since hte early days, you can still see it on his rack, great for blues, u2 stuff, and classic rock stuff as well)

    Maxon CP101 Compressor (can't cover U2 without a compressor. It smoothes out your tone so much and makes it warm. Great pedal)

    Perhaps used for some of NLOTH album. Custom rack version used on VERTIGO and 360 tours. Pedal version used on 360 tour

    Great overdrive. But not used since the early days. Edge began using the TS-9 during the Elevation tour through to the present. Although the one that Edge is using now was modified by AnalogMan (www.analogman.com)

    Thanks for the corrections man I thought I remember reading he's used the TS-9 since the War days and stuff? Guess not.

  5. Nice guitar trio you got there, I love that Tele!!!

    I hadn't heard of "Godin" guitars until now, and I've searched some info. They're nice (great looking, at least) but I'm afraid they're not my cup of tea.


    Nice amp too, I'd love a Hot Rod like that. It fits (aesthetically) with the Strat, good choice

    German grip is palms down. "French timpani' grip is thumbs up.

    German suits my drumming more, as when palms are down, one can get a good deal of speed from fingers vs. wrists.

    Lots to learn and all will help you play better. Take your time and start slow and build up speed. Speed, isn't the goal. Concepts and getting the various sticking patterns is first and foremost. It will grow your drumming vocabulary and then you will be able to set the muscle memory and play anything you hear in your head or on record - easier.



  7. Just thought that additional information would help. Particularly in the case of the DM4 as he's used that more than you'd mentioned. And with each of them would help show the eras the items were used.

    As for the TS-9, I don't ever remember seeing it in Edge's tour gear until the Elevation tour.

    I have been thinking about getting a guitar for ages and finally think I will be able to get round to it. Obviously Im a huge U2 fan and will mainly be playing their songs.....I am quite musically minded and play other instruments so I am just going to try and teach myself.

    What I was wondering if anyone could recommend a starter kit (eg guitar, amp, some pedals etc) that I could buy initially which would enable me to play a lot of U2 songs......

    I know it will take me ages to play these songs but songs which I want to be able to someday play are:

    The Fly (!!!)
    UTEOTW
    Magnificent
    Unknown Caller
    All I want Is You
    Vertigo
    Beautiful Day.........the list goes on....

    ....you get what I mean...

    Any ideas would be immensely appreciated....(I am prepared to spend a decent amount).

    Search this thread for mention of the M13 effects pedal...seems to be immensely popular in getting some U2 sounds down right.

    Also, if you're dead-set on getting The Edge's sound, you're going to want either the Digitech DigiDelay or Memory Man delay effects.

  11. The obvious choice would be an Epiphone Explorer (or a Gibson, if you're talking some serious money)...but Edge also plays Les Paul models and Fender Strats (which sound great clean) most commonly.

    He's been using what looks like a hollow-body on "Breathe" and "No Line" live this year, and someone else on the thread would probably be able to help you out with what thats called. I play a PRS (Paul Reed Smith) SE, which looks remotely like a Les Paul. It has fantastic action and sound, and through my multi-effect pedal, Edge's sounds are usually close to achievable. It's all a matter of personal preference. The PRS cost me about $500
  12. If you want a basic guitar, get yourself an Epiphone Les Paul, there are packs of guitar + ampli + accesories for less than 300 US $... That's something good to start with
