If the D is not the lowest not, then the chord is not a Em/D.
That's what I meant with "with standard tuning, the open D is the lowest D you can achieve"... But ok, then we agree... partially. There's always the discussion about if a " X / Y" chord means that Y should be the bass, or simply an added note. I support the second idea, because sometimes you simply can't hit some notes without changing your tuning (or moving 12 frets up, as you said); for example, there's a spanish song which features a chord called G#m/F#, which obviously you can't play with the F# as the lowest note; the fingering for that chord is the following (EADGBe) : 4 6 6 4 7 4
There, the F# is added on the B string, on the 7th fret. You barre the 4th fret with the index finger, hit the 6th and 6th frets with the middle fingers, and the 7th fret with the pinky. It's hard but it's the only way to do it right.

This is a bit confusing but I hope you got me
The /X doesn't have to be the lowest note of the chord!! (in my opinion)
  2. All this theory...I just like playing what sounds good =P

I've been playing a fair bit of acoustic stuff using the open E tuning Edge uses for Stuck In A Moment on the 360 tour recently, lot of fun even for a fairly simple idea. Just thought you should all know!

You have said it all...bring back the jazzes!!

I've been playing it in standard....what's he tune in for the show?
  5. Something for Dallas admirers.
  6. Saw that dallas vid a while back. I love the tone when he plays the UV riff on that explorer, I don't know why Edge switched, my guess is the whole sustainer riff that appears a couple times in the song. I like the change, but I still like the way he played it in the ZOOTV days, especially the riff during the "I remember, when we could sleep on stones" section. Ahh well.

  7. As cool as that is....I would have been PISSED to be sitting there in that stadium if he had done that during the full house in Chicago! I kept myself in the dark for close to 3 months on that setlist, and eventually found out bits and pieces through reviews (opening 4 + encore, for example), and also heard "Elevation" soundchecked on my way to Soldier Field....but he just ripped through (most of) the whole set in 4 minutes!
  8. I'd have been more pissed if he didnt' do it and be certain that all of the electronics were working 100% correctly.

  9. Oh I completely agree- but they didn't open the doors at Soldier Field until 5:45. The band was soundchecking all the way up til about 5PM. Had Dallas waited until a lot of people were already there, like it showed in that video (or so it seemed), it might have bothered me a bit. Doing it right before/after the sound check wouldn't phase me; that's what that's for. And I didn't stand around outside waiting to hear soundcheck, because I wanted all those surprises. I just happened upon it on my way up to the stadium.
  10. But was that just going through the stage guitar amps or through the PA system too?

I am sure it comes down to there are only so many hours in the day. Dallas does things on a schedule that works for him and for The Edge. Shouldn't that be acceptable to us fans? (It is for me).

I understand that each has their opinon or preference. I get that. I am not saying no one should have an opinion. But I don't understand anyone being mad/annoyed about how Dallas does his job.

Guess we will have to agree to disagree.
