    It IS a Les Paul. It is a Les Paul Artisan. they were made between 1976 and 1982.

    If you get the serial number (on the back of the headstock) I can tell you exactly what vintage it is, date, and factory it came out of.

    (Gibson's being made in Kalamazoo, MI and Nashville, TN during 1976-1982)

    The pickups don't appear to all be factory. They should also have pickup covers.

    That said, the small switches between the tone and volume knobs appear to be alterations too. Might be for coil tapping. Might be some effect that was later built into it? But the lil switches to not appear to be factory issue.

    The inlay work on the Artisan's live up to their name. Gorgeous guitars.

    BTW thank you all for saying how beautiful it is Indeed, it is gorgeous And... I think it's going to be my NEXT guitar, since my grandfa is going to quit soon of playing live, and I think I'll receive some of his musical stuff...

    The Artisan looks great. They were only made for 6 years. So while it might not be worth the same as a 1958-1960 LP, it will appreciate in value as there were not too many made.

    I'd love to HEAR the thing. Sound clips?

    And ask your Grandfather what the smaller switches do. Again, I don't think they are factory issue, which might hurt the value of the guitar but if it sounds and plays great... then that is all that really matters.

    After all Andy Summers (the Police) Tele was bought with LOADS of aftermarket work and because HE played it... it's worth tons! (As are the Fender reissues of his Tele)

    And like I said, if you send me the serial number, on the back of the headstock, I can tell you yet MORE about your lovely Artisan.

  10. PS - The Hofner may not be a vintage Strat or Les Paul but they have plenty of "vibe" and "character". Certainly a cool and I'd guess, pretty fun guitar to play.

    Very indeed Moreover, it looks pretty similar to Bono's Joshua Gibson ES-335 (that gorgeous red guitar). I mean it's virtually the same guitar with different brand

  12. Hofner made lots of copies of US guitars. As has Tokai from Japan.
