  1. Great purchase! I remember right after the NLOTH promo tour was finished about 3 guys on the u2-sound forum bought a country gent, great guitar by the sounds of it.

    I myself just purhcases a guitar as well, (definitely not as pricey ) it's an Epiphone Les Paul Custom in the discontinued antique ivory finish, or in other words, the Edge's cream 1970's les paul finish!




    I plan on switching out hte stock pickups for Seymour Duncan 59's, probably switch out the tuners for better ones, probably switch out the pots, and perhaps dye the fretboard a bit or use some oil to make it darker. I'll be putting the gold schaller pickup rings around the buckers as well, so it looks like Edge's.

    Gold schaller rings are the rings around the humbuckers:


    I'd like to know what the little black rings are around the stopbar mounts are, could be a cool add-on to make it perfect (other than the Gibson logo that is )
  4. Don't the humbuckers sound better without the covers? You could try to take them off to see if that's true.
  5. Modern metal pickup covers are made of "German Silver" which doesn't affect the sound. Older humbucker covers could reduce highs.

  8. Thank you very much. But I don't know if "German Silver" was really invented here... we call it "Neusilber" which means "New Silver". I think it's a mix of several kinds of metal.

    You are welcome. Well is was in fact a bit of a joke I mean, guitar as bass technology is much more american than anything else, but Germany has pioneered most areas when the subject is technology and science in general.
  10. I've been eyeing the axe-fx with hungry eyes lately Looks like an insane rig in a box, seems like a lot of U2 tribute guys use em' too. Something I like about that opposed to something like the M13 (what I have now) is the fact that you can change a bunch of effects with one push of a button on a midi controller. Besides that though, the thing sounds great.

    With Joshua Tree (Tribute) Chas gets 99% of the tones from the Axe-FX. Korg A3 gets the tones for "Mysterious Ways".

    But for home use... the M13 is amazing and you can get loads of great U2 tones.

    For tribute Bono's, the M13 will do the job for his guitar bits.

    Think moneywise too... All the money you spend on an AxeFX and a proper controller.... you could have a few more guitars for variety to use with your M13. Again, for home use or smaller gigs this might be the better solution. I don't know that you will get your money's worth if you are just talking about playing a bit at home.

    Very true. And yeah, a lot of guys in tributes use the axe fx. I would buy it with the idea in mind of starting a tribute band, which is what I want to do now. But I guess it would only be smart to wait until that happens to even consider spending that much money. And its true about the guitars, but the guitars I have in mind are just as much (sweet sweet rickenbacker) but then, there's always ebay. Surprisingly i've never ever seen an axe-fx on ebay.

    Ultimately it would be stupid to buy the axe fx for tinkering around in my basement (what i do now). Might as well stick with the m13 until I can try to get this tribute band up and running! Then who knows

    I'M STILL BUYING AN A3 THOUGH!!!!
