  1. Now now... Bono might not be the best guitarist ever but he's far better than some seem to allow credit.

    Dallas Schoo has said positive things about Bono's guitar playing. And both Dallas and Daniel Lanois have said that Bono is particularly good in the 'ideas' department when writing songs -- coming up with guitar ideas and such.

    The story has it that it was Bono that took Edge's guitar and showed him what direction that he thought "I Will Follow" should go in.

    Not saying they need to make "Guitar Hero: The Bono Edition", just sayin...

    Most of the time I spend bitching about Bono's guitar skills, but it's just for fun. I know that he can play a lot better than we're shown most of the time, and he uses (used?) to come up with great guitar parts, licks and chord progressions. But making fun of him is hilarious

    No fella, you get me wrong, I'm not criticising his skills, I'm actually having a cheeky dig at the fact he doesn't play it enough, in my opinion - I'd like to see him play guitar live much more than he does at the moment, so seeing him whip out an acoustic is pretty mindblowing for me

    I'd like to see him play a bit more too. And see him use a wider variety of guitars.

  6. No, a washburn festival acoustic.

    I'm pretty sure Bono came up with the chords for In God's Country as well. I believe the story went:

    Edge: I can't think of anything! They're all crap ideas

    Bono: (takes guitar, starts playing D, Am) what about this edge?

    Edge: That's crappy (takes back guitar, reluctantly starts playing the same chords and playing around with them) Why don't we write a song out of this? I GUESS YOU WERE RIGHT BONO

    Bono: (thinks to himself: This is why I said I'd be guitarist in Larry's kitchen)

    That last part I added in myself, but I think that's pretty how much how In God's Country started. Who knows how many other U2 songs started because of Bono fiddling with a guitar??
  7. just purchased a VOX Big Ben overdrive great overdrive for lead playing. I'll still use my OCD for rhythym. Anybody heard of these amazing overdrive units?
  8. My uncle recently gave me quite a few packages of strings for my birthday. Among them were two packages of Elixir acoustics with "nanoweb" coating. I think that they're worth mentioning because I put them on my cheap Ibanez acoustic and it sounds just like Edge's SJ-200. Also, I put them on about a week and a half ago and they sound only a few days old. (To be specific, they're "Elixer Bronze Lights" .12-.53)


  9. Correct, that was a Washburn Woodstock series Festival Acoustic for WOWY on R&H.

    Bono was also playing a Gibson J-160 during the Joshua Tree era. And he also played a tobacco finish Alvarez/Yairi DY56 during The Joshua Tree tour.

    Elixir's are wicked strings. I use them on my acoustic exclusively.

    If he spent half the money on hair products as he did on that guitar in 1987, I wouldn't cringe so much looking at that picture...
