    Couple thoughts...

    Someone made the comment about Explorer, LP (humbucker guitars) all sound the same or close enough... that is not true. Example:

    Earlier in the tour, Edge was playing Beautiful Day on an Explorer. There was a guitar issue and Dallas swapped it out (rapidly) with a Les Paul. There was a discernable darker tone with a less chime than the Explorer.

    Will all fans notice the difference? No. But at the end of the day, Edge has to be happy with the tone and feel like he's presenting the songs with the best tone that inspires. If that means loads of guitars, what is wrong wiht that? Absolutely nothing.

    What seems odd to me is that anyone has a problem with how many guitars Edge uses. That just seems so odd to me.

    Oh well. The world is made of various opinions. Nothing wrong with that.

  3. He didn't switch back. Started with Explorer, there was an issue, swapped out for the LP Custom and finished the song.

    The odd thought there was why did the not swap out for another Explorer. He owns 12 (at last count). I'm guessing that there are -- at least -- 2 on the tour.

    I wish I could remember which show that it was... I saw the video on YouTube.

    At the time I remember a few folks saying "See it can be done, BD sounds great on the LP". But there was a defiinite change in tone on that YouTube clip from that show. Explorer is brighter than an LP.

    I thought that you meant there was a problem with the way the guitar was sounding on the song and he'd switched to the LP for Beautiful Day every show since...scared the crap out of me
  5. I agree that the explorer and the LP did sound a tiny bit different, but only to a picky musicians ear. I did hear a difference myself, but it wasn't that substantial. You said yourself people were saying he could have swapped them out and it wouldn't have made a difference, which proves my point that people (most notably non-musicians) wouldn't notice a difference.

    I still think he can cut down the number of guitars by a lot. Just look at how he's changed guitars for songs over the years. New Years Day was played on a strat up until about halfway through the ZooTV tour, and for me it didn't really change the feeling of the song when the guitar was changed.
    Same with sunday bloody sunday, went from a strat to a tele and now back to a strat (i'm leaving out popmart, totally different rendition). Didn't make that much of a difference of the feeling of the song for me. The biggest difference on that song is that the tempo and key have changed over the years, but the guitar sound isn't that big of a changer.

    Again, I don't have a problem with it, I just find it UNNECESSARY. Seems like people aren't getting that. I very much respect the fact that he uses that many guitars. The only problem I DO have, is when people think it makes a big difference to the crowd. It doesn't. And the other problem I have, is that people misconstrue Edge's gear choices for actually needing that much gear and that many guitars to get a good tone, or even a good variety for tones. Not true, AT ALL. Like I said, I've heard of tribute guys NAILING Edge's tone bringing only something like a Tonelab or an M13 and 3 or 4 guitars to a gig.

    My main point: No one needs to use that many guitars in one gig. Someone like Edge who has a very specific sound in mind and the money to pursue it and experiment may want to use that many guitars in a show, but he certainly doesn't need to, and 98% of the crowd wouldn't notice a difference if he decided not to use that many either.

  9. I know! I'd never played a hollow electric guitar before, I was playing it in the shop and turned the amp delay on and just got the perfect rhythm for Still Haven't Found and played it for ages Really nice feel off it, could have stayed there for years
  10. They are niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice, I love that sweet and deep tone that the hollows give. I used to be more of a solid guitar -specially Les Paul- fan, but I'm more and more interested (and fascinated) by the hollow/semi-hollow ones. Doesn't matter if it's a 195$ Epiphone Dot or a 4.675€ Gibson ES-335, I simply love playing them, even seeing them

    I think everyone who learned guitar because of Edge and tried to get Edge's tone automatically becomes a tone freak. I think we can leave that whole argument to rest though, and start talking about something else!


    Like that Casino! So weird that you brought that up, recently I decided I was going to start saving up for an Epi casino haha, great minds think alike I guess. I've always loved the tone of Edge's casino, and the tone of hollowbodies themselves. I like that the casino is fully hollow as opposed to semi-. Great stuff!
  12. speaking of picky...this is how picky I am.

    I will NEVER use a digital effect unit. No digital delay will ever come close to my 90's Deluxe Memory Man. Does that make me a tone snob? Yep. Do I care? Nope. Does it sound the best to me? Yep.
