    I use a VERY similar Digitech model at home/at gigs...the amp mods really aren't too bad, if you know how to mix the EQ. The most fun stuff is making ultra-specific settings for specific songs (For example, one of my settings has the wah position and delay set perfectly to match "Sirius", by The Alan Parsons Project, which brings the Chicago Bulls into the United Center during their home games- its what we opened shows with )

    The distortion effects can get really treble-y...I've played shows in which they sounded okay from the stage, but upon watching video of the show later, I realized the high end was just clipping WAY too much...so make sure you watch for that. It's somewhat harder to gauge with the crass sound that the stack amp-mod gives you. I usually try to go with a fuzz amp with low gain and push the high end of the EQ, or a tweed amp with mid-to-high gain, with a nice touch of reverb to get the more "big" rock tone.

    I know what you mean, when I first re-modeled a sound for one of my songs, I wanted to go for a more "classic" amp sound, but with heavy gain and distortion. When I was doing it through headphones, it sounded fantastic. However, once I put it through my amp (on the clean, "no-nothing" setting), there was just way too much treble, and it sounded like there was a fiat "screetch" in the background, like nails going down a chalk board. I ended up remodeling again, but I spent the majority of the time on the EQ and the amp. I'm very pleased with that tone now.

    I know exactly what you mean. Luckily, I watched videos from rehearsal before we played our first show in June. I re-modeled and re-taped everything to make sure that wouldn't happen on stage. Yes, I've recently been getting into the the fuzz amp settings. I made a setting that is basically a low-gain Marshal --> mid-gain "fuzz" distortion --> chorus --> long delay. My usual is something like mid-gain AC15 --> "scream" distortion --> delay --> reverb. I can't wait for the RP500 and the AC30 mod.




  4. I compared it to the Swingster and the Gretsch 5120 / 5122. Ended up with the 5122.

  6. Yep, a Gretsch G6122!


    He also used it for Please and Mothers Of The Disappeared on the popmart tour. It kind of went missing on the elevation tour (wasn't used) and it came back on the vertigo tour for COBL. Love this guitar, the sound on it is quite amazing. A bunch of guys at the u2soundforum have bought one and have all loved it too.

  9. Sure thing. I don't have any of the fixed settings, but I can make some for you if you'd like to hear some of the ways I fixed it and made some sweet sounds.

    Here's what I mean of the high end clipping though.



    As you can hear, its a very tinny, treble-y sound.

    And we screw up in this one, during the main riff, but listen for the channel change into the distortion, and hear how high it sounds.



    And I'm NOT saying that its the only way the pedal can sound- it just needed remixed. It does have every ability to sound fantastic- you just have to be weary of how some of those presets are going to sound turned up very loud, and make adjustments.

    Some of the better examples are Facebook videos, so I'll see if the kid that taped them at the festival we played can up them to Youtube. There was some high clipping going on that day.

    Nice I have nothing constructive to add to that by the way, I just wanted to hear what kind of sounds you were getting. I have nothing to show myself, although in some cases it's a good thing 'cause the last time I played a show of any sort was about 2-3 years ago, and it was all fairly haphazard lol...I wouldn't mind seeing if there's video of it doing the rounds somewhere though. Anyway...


  11. Edge has a couple of Gretsch 6122 Country Gentleman.

    He's used them for: Please, Mothers..., One (Popmart), One Tree Hill (Vertigo), City of Blinding Lights, Magnificent.

    The ElectroMatic 5122 will not sound as good as a 6122. The pickups are not as good. Although you could swap out the stock 5122 pickups for a set of TV Jones Classic pickups (made to vintage specs) and it would sound a lot more like Edge's
  12. I got a great deal on a 2004 RetroRocket. It sounded like The Edge's but in it's blue finish, it didn't quite look the part.

    But after a trip to Marty Bell, it now looks exactly like the Retro Rocket that Edge has used for "With Or Without You" on the Vertigo and 360 tours.
