That. Is. Sexy. Always loved Rickenbackers. Brilliant buy
  5. Thanks guys! I know most U2 fans tend to gravitate towards the 12-string Ricky's, but I'm not a huge fan of 12 strings for a few reasons.

A), I know most people don't, but I find it annoying, NOT hard, annoying, going back and forth between 12 and 6 strings. It gets to be a pain readjusting my playing style everytime I switch guitars.

    B) Re-stringing. Need I say more? HUGE pain in the ass, especially on a ricky.

    C) I can do more on a 6 string than I can on a 12 string. I feel like 12 strings aren't very versatile, in that they're mostly using for chords or arpeggios. You can't really solo or riff that much, and when you do, it's a bit difficult, at least more difficult than it is on a 6 string.

I know no one asked me this question, but I just thought I'd let some people know why I didn't go FULL Edge on this purchase

  6. I supposed it I don't feel comfortable on electric 12 strings either, and you're right: it's harder to play riffs and solos than on standard strung guitars! Moreover, Edge doesn't make the most of his 12's (personal opinion), so you don't need to suffer the 12-strings unconvenience in order to sound like him. Just get some nice chorus onto that Ricky beauty and rock on!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS. I love the acoustic 12's though

Indeed! We'll see how it plays out. I know how Ricky's are meant to sound, and how they're generally played to sound, so I'm looking forward to finding ways to maybe take it out of its comfort zone. We'll see how it goes!

And yeah acoustic 12 strings are beautiful. My brother has one and it just sings. It almost sounds like there's a chorus and reverb effect coming through the soundhole. So nice. Too bad I spend all of my money on electric guitars Otherwise I'd probably of picked one of those up by now!

    Nice. Congrats on the purchase.

Suggestion for improved tone - Swap out the pickups for the 'toaster top' vintage (lo-gain) version.

  9. Yeah people have already been telling me to do that. Will probably do it eventually, I haven't sampled the toasters myself, but I've heard great things about them. Expensive set of pups though.

    Everything Rickenbacker is expensive.

    The wisdom is:
-- Low gain pickups have a wider spectrum of tone.
-- Hi-Gain pickups have a narrower spectrum of tone.

So it is is Edge / Vintage / wider spectrum of tone you want - The vintage style pickups are athe way to go.
