Just a gimmick, to look cool. I'm pretty sure discotheque was either recorded on the Gretsch Country Gent or the Jaguar/fernandes decade elite. Maybe even a strat for the quieter parts, I don't htink it's really known. But it definitely wasn't that les paul.
