Seeing the back, is there anything I could potentially do myself instead of having it professionally repaired, to save some money? A re-solder, replacing part of the speaker, etc?

There's a ZT Lunchbox amp on the market for roughly $200 right now...if something's going to run me 150 or more, I'll just buy the new amp- I haven't been 100% satisfied with the Fender and have heard nothing but rave reviews of the ZT for ages now...

or you could shell 100 more and get a fender blues jr

you will never be 100% satisfied with anything but tubes. (ask edge). A blues jr will run you about 350 for the older used models. You will love it

I know its only 100 or so more but thats making or breaking the budget of a poor college student, working only for the summer to fund merchandise and a Lollapalooza ticket, not to mention saving money to be able to spend at school next year

I won't be able to play enough in the next 3 years to justify going all out on a nicer amp. When I have a real job, and will be able to finance such a purchase, I can "solidify" my gear and settle in with things I'd like. But right now it's worth having something smaller and a tad cheaper to be able to play the bit that I can on.

Another one from the Edge archives of gear used... 1939 Epiphone Elektar Zephyr lap steel. Edge used it on stage and in the studio for "Surrender" (War)

Latest addition to my collection... 1939 Epiphone Elektar Zephyr lap steel. (1939! Now THAT is vintage!

"Surrender" tuning sorted. Now... to learn the part.

Go for the ZT. The ZT sounds almost as good as tube amp in most respects, and it's probably better than the Fender Solid state you have. Plus, once you do start growing into better gear, the ZT will still be good enough to hang around with the big boys. I love my ZT, i'll probably never sell it.

Good to see edge is using his red rickenbacker again! On EBTTRT in Argentina! I like the wooden one he is using on MW, but the sunburst is just B-E-A-UTIFUL
