I use a multi effects unit, it's a low budget boss gt-8 with an additional behringer rv600 for the shimmer sound. It needs some dialing in but you can get a lot of U2 sounds out of it. Check out Roberto Marra on youtube, he has some very good U2 sounds, he also uses a boss gt-8. There are ofcourse much more expensive units like the axe-fx that can do the job better, but if you are on a budget it works very well.
Thank you so much I will have a look at that. Good man thanks

As you've been told on the post above, the Boss GT8 / GT10 / GT100 family do a pretty good job

If you want an alternative... Many many U2-players out there have a Line6 M5 / M9 / M13 though (or used to have, before jumping to the Fractal Axe FX units), and that makes finding patches and sounds out there much easier. I'd go that route to be honest!
  3. I have really good fun trying to recreate as many sounds as I can with pedals, we do have a multi effects unit that my dad got at uni in the early 90s, so I can use them both to get really crisp JT+later digital delay and the pre-JT analogue delay with a memory boy, and it's great fun to use the actual pedals )
  4. I have had a GT8 myself for years now, first and only board I've bought, it's simply amazing for the price. Can basically do any U2 sound. I'm mostly proud of my Lemon preset, sounds very close to Edge's.
  5. I made the leap and bought an Axe Fx just before Christmas, best decision i've ever made, this thing is brilliant!
  6. So I think I'm going to get myself the GT8. Been looking Into it and it looks great. So my question is? Is it really hard to get into it and the effects set right? Some one says to me you can actually buy the U2 settings and download them onto it. I don't know anything about that tho

I'd just get in touch with Edo

Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips uses that Boss effects pedal. It must be good. Apparently durable.

It takes some time to figure it out, but it's not too hard to use. To make it more easy, you can connect the Boss to the PC. This allows you to download patches from the internet, this gave me a headstart for the U2 sounds on my Boss since there are some patches available online. Otherwise you can contact me . Sergio talked about Edo and the Axe fx2, it is a unit that I dream of but since it is about 1500 euros I'll have to stick with my cheaper Boss (bought it second hand 150 euros). Perhaps Edo wants to give you some tips on the sound, I'll be very interested as well if he and you want to share this. Good luck with your choice, and for questions about the Boss gt-8 you can always ask for more info here.
