Indeed, I only recall him talking about SBS but that doesn't mean he didn't refer to anything else, I just remember him saying they dropped the echo for SBS to get a more forceful idea across.

These two humbucker guitars with a cranked Fender amp and perhaps some distortion... plus the EH Deluxe Memory Man can get a bit of overdrive to it.

He used it for Rejoice, if I remember correctly - from stuff on YouTube from the '82 Gateshead festival...

I recommend a professional setup at your local guitar repair guy. Once the action is not buzzing or isn't set too high, that is a good start.

After that, you might want to eventually upgrade some bits on it... the tuners will probably need to be changed. The pickups will definitely need to be changed in time.

Possible pickup replacements, to give you far better tone?
    Fender 57/62
    Fender Custom Shop `69's
    Duncan Antiquities
Kinman Woodstock’s, but they are very expensive (as well as being the only noiseless pickups worth considering in a Strat)
    Fralin Vintage
    Lollar

Congrats on your new guitar and the wonderful world of guitar playing!
