    All mentioned will talk about specific 'bits' of equipment. But it isn't like Dallas or Edge will tell you the exact setting and chain for "Gone" or "Elevation" or whatever.

    That said, with good ears and a lot of smart fellows, many on U2 Recording yahoo group have figured out how to acheive a great number of The Edge's tones with the same gear as The Edge and with alternate gear too.


    I've seen some techs talk about specific settings and chains. Anyway, if you have the exact same equipment, it is just a matter of time until you can make it sound like the "original tone".

    Some techs will mention an effect or so of what might have been used. Some might mention some recording technique used while recording. But most 'techs' like most crews for any band sign "confidentiality agreements". With that, they are limited as to what they can divulge about the band.

    Dallas will own up to giving a delay time, what guitar was used... he might even mention an effect... but if you are looking for what guitar with what settings > what effects - in what order with what settings > what amps used and with what settings: He isn't going to give that out. He'd mentioned that some guitarist from prominent bands have approached with notepads asking: "So how does he get THIS sound". And he can't and won't tell.

    Sure, like I mentioned with many on U2 Recording Group... many have found ways to obtain similar if not spot on tones for U2 songs. And in some cases, with alternate gear. One great piece of gear being used by many on the U2 Rec List is the Fractal Audio AxeFX. One can get a LOT of Edge tone outta that thing. I've heard it, when I've seen LA's The Joshua Tree play.

    So it isnt' that the tones can't be figured out. And Dallas or the Edge may give an ingredient but you'll have to figure out the recipe on your own - they are not going to give it up.

    And considering the time and effort they put into creating the different tones used... it is well within their right to NOT tell.
  3. The Explorer may be Edge best known guitar, even though it's not been his main guitar for many many years. In fact, other than UltraViolet, it was not used on the ZOO tours and it sat out all of PopMart. Even now, it get a song or two per night. It's distinctive shape being one thing that stands out in most fans minds.

    For Adam, one that stands out is the yellow Auerswald. Auerswald is the German luthier that makes all of the odd shape guitars for Prince. Interestingly enough, most fans remember this bass, even though it was used ONLY during PopMart. Here's some pictures of Adam and his A. Clayton Custom.

    I loved that bass, too, and if he used it again I'd be all for it
    though I think (really not sure) I read that he said the bass was part of the whole stage set up or something and thus wouldn't be seen again..

    I think that out of the context of the POPmart environment it wouldn't look nearly as cool.

    5.8 I think he said earlier on...scary shit, I daresay? We don't get much in the way of bad quakes in the UK; the last big tremor we had, I slept through it lol...
