How DO you tell if the Explorer you are looking at is Edge approved 1976 Limited Edition? For those searching their local used shops...
First, the serial number starts 00 (space) and then six digits.
Second, it says Limited Edition
Both markings can be found on the back of the headstock - like so:

I hate SGs, I think they look horrible. I dislike the pointy 'devil' look (as I call it), hence I dislike a lot of PRS and Ibanez guitars in addition to the SG - aesthetically, they really don't do it for me

I remember Dallas mentioning that he was going to be taking that on into the studio, in an interview before the band recorded POP. So I wonder what songs and if it appears on POP at all?
