    You're right mate, it is about whether one is personally happy with one's gear. I'm gonna try and get a decent pic of my setup sometime soon, and you'll see that it's nothing much, what with a fairly small Yamaha amp. and the only effects being generated from my Zoom G1X effects pedal, but it serves me well and with a bit of fiddling here and there works a treat. For sure, I want to get some decent stuff in the future, e.g. something like a Boss GT-3, an AC30 or -50 amp. etc., not to mention another couple of guitars way down the line, but I'm in no rush

    By the by, I can't believe that you don't have an acoustic lol! Or rather, it just seems weird - I started off with my Ridgewood semi-acoustic before getting my Strat. copy as part of a starter kit (which has a sunburst finish and looks great, although the pickups are what one would expect of a fairly cheap guitar. However, a bit of fiddling about with effects and amps and you're laughing )

    By tremolo bar, I assume you mean whammy bar? I dunno whether that's just cultural differences or whether one of us has it wrong but no matter lol. And yeah, no worries, I could see it was a Squier, I just meant that whether one has a Fender or a Squier Strat., a black finish with white pickguard is such a great look

    @ Alex, re. changing to all black - sounds good mate! Not sure if I'd ever follow suit though...
  3. Well guys, I'm getting rid of my fender. Yes, it is a fender Stratocaster, but it is an absolutely crap guitar. I bought it years ago at a garage sale, and I'm just not pleased with the tone. (I like the sound of my Spencer Stratocaster much better) I'm selling it to a friend, so I'll probably buy another Fender Strat, a Fender Mustang, or a Telecaster...

    Yea as long as you're happy with what you have. I started playing electric on a washburn starter kit. Very small amp, very minimal guitar. I liked the sound of it, up until I started noticing how my sound was nothing compared to the Edge's. So I took my brothers Marshall, which was nicer, and I bought myself a fender strat MIM, and a couple pedals (delay and overdrive) I had that setup for a long time, then I realized I wanted the mother of all amps. The Edge's baby, and now mine. The Vox AC30. God, it took me so long to get the money to buy it. First I had to get a job, then I had to budget myself, (which was hard). But eventually I got it. After that, the trip for the effects began. I'm happy with my setup, always have been, but for me it's all a matter of, it can be better! And I can get more sounds if I buy more things!!! So yea. The only reason I'm keeping my crappy job is so i can buy guitar gear.

    Anyway! I did start out on an acoustic. It was my mothers actually, she had it when she was a teenager. But that was a couple years ago, and I quit guitar. I lost the inspiration and motivation to play. Sad eh? But then I started listening to U2, and I was like "I want to play electric" So I did! Now that guitar is just a wreck. I should really get it fixed up.

    I'd change radically and get a Gibson Les Paul. Otherwise you'll be rid of Fender (the brand itself) soon again. Even though, if you want to stick with Fender I recommend you a Telecaster,much more mythical and gorgeous and balanced and energical than a Mustang. Or stay with another (better) Stratocaster, but in that case it HAS to be a Mark Knopfler Special Edition

    That accoustic guitar will be better for you than any Fender Super Duper Special Edition or Gibson Les Extreme. The first guitar is always a piece of your life, forever

    I'm not too worried about getting rid of a fender. I've played many guitars in the past few days, and for whatever reason, I felt that I got the most out of the Mustangs. The Telecasters just aren't really what I want right now. My Spencer Strat can sound almost exactly like a Fender Telecaster, depending on the effects I run through my amp. I'm not really wanting another Stratocaster, as I already have one, so it will be the Mustang. I probably won't keep it stock, anyway.

    Well, it all depends on the effects, obviously. I've played one with no effects running through a small amp, they have a very "scratchy" sound to them. Similar to a Gibson SG....A very unique sound.

    Sounds interesting. They look pretty cool too, I ran a search on google images and they look unique also.

    Yes, they're very unique. And they're fairly cheap (compared to Strats, Teles, etc.)

    But yeah, I've only got a basic setup, always have, but I agree with the "it can be better!" motto, tis why I wanted another guitar. I like my Strat., shit as it is lol, but the tone was too thin for me where certain U2 songs are concerned, and I love Les Pauls, so I figured an Epi. LP was the ticket. Or an Explorer if the LP was out of the question...and now I have it, I can vary my style a lot more

    Well, not better lol...but it's a special piece in my life . I love playing my semi-acoustic, what with it being my first guitar like any acoustic, it's versatile, because pretty much anything sounds good on it lol
