Pricey? Sure. But it is one of the guitars out there that is somewhat worth it.

Taylor makes great guitars but many of them seem prices a few hundred too much; with the bulk of the better of their guitars in the 1899.00-2500.00 range. They might sell more if they were slightly more affordable.

Then again, they make the majority of them in the US and hence higher labor costs. So that falls in line with what Rickenbacker has to contend. And I am not saying that is a bad thing... I like that Ric's and most Taylors are made in the US.

One other thing that both have in common are that they are located in California and hence have higher tax issues than in some other states.

Sure their labor costs and tax issues might not mean much to you and me... but they are reasons why their products cost a bit more... that and both Taylor AND Rickenbacker make quality instruments.
  2. Someone was asking to hear my Clapton Strat and my Danelectro 12... these might not be the best recordings or show off the best bits of each guitar but here ya go.

Here's my Clapton: Song - "Loveless"
    http://www.esnips.com/doc/cbffed4a-2bae-4a79-aea9-661947b94e8b/Loveless-(v1)

It's the Clapton > WH-1 Whammy set to DEEP (hence the big chorus-y tone) > Behringer vAmp2 set to a AC30TB amp > into the computer.

Why is it called "Loveless"? It reminded me of My Bloody Valentine songs from their "Loveless" album... a bit.

I made this recording the evening I received the WH-1. I was playing with the settings and Ian hit record. The ending makes me laugh. I was fumbling with the strings and tremolo bar to conjure up a bit of chaos.

Here's my 12 string Denelectro: Song - "Summer (In Euclid) [lush chorus mix]"
    http://www.esnips.com/doc/57684e88-b3cf-4b36-a79c-c4c18a2a688a/Summer-(In-Euclid)-[The-Lush-Reverb-Mix]

Danelectro DC-59 12-string > Boss CS-2 compressor > Boss DC-3 Digital Dimension chorus > vAmp 2 > computer. (The reverb is from the Cakewalk program)

...I'd forgot about the outro counter melody bit that I'd added to this... a pleasant surprise.

Not the best performance but it was merely to get a sketch of the tune. I am hoping to get my recording program issues sorted so that I can record new tunes and better re-record some of the older tunes.

The clapton clip sounds like a Killers backing track haha. I love the ending, sounds really cool. The danelectro sounds as cool as I thought it would. Really nice sound to it!!! Do you have any clips of the clapton strat with just a clean signal?
  4. Clean? An Edge fan playing "CLEAN" as in - WITHOUT effects? Are you MAD!?!?!?!

I will have to record some, once I get my Cakewalk issues sorted out so that I can record.

Here's m'Washburn EA20. This one came out decent.
    http://www.esnips.com/doc/c9b3871d-7bce-4718-8812-d4a4dc0e8af3/The-Lifting

    It's called "The Lifting".

    The chain is as follows:

    Washburn EA20 (acoustic) > Boss OD-2r (just a bit of OD) > Boss RV-3 Digital Reverb/Delay > Behringer vAmp2 > computer

Like a Killers backing track? I will take that as a compliment. Although, it was not what I was after. Actually, I just plugged in and played and that came out.

BONO, not Edge, played the melody bit in the beginning of "Staring At The Sun" when it was played (live) acoustically.

    Santiago Popmart video:

He also was playing the melody bit, and Edge played the chords, to "Walk On" on the earlier shows on the 'Elevation' tour. Later in the tour they swapped roles and Bono played the chords and Edge played the melody.

Bono is a FAR better guitar player than he's given credit.
  8. Heres a question for Bass, does anyone use a pick to play WTSHNN or their fingers. I think i've seen adam play with a pick but using my fingers sounds better.

Whatever sounds better and feels better for you man. Don't worry about copying other people. If using your fingers sounds good, (I prefer the sound of fingers hitting Bass strings anyway) then use your fingers!

I've always played it with my fingers but I've been trying it out using a pick. As others have said it depends on the sound you're going for. Adam mixes it up. Sometimes pick, sometimes finger. It also depends on if you're using a chorus effect or playing it "clean".

Also it depends on how you play it too meaning if you play it all mid-neck or slide up and down playing only the E and A strings like he did on the POPmart tour.
