    That fits perfectly with me. Even tho I don't like that much dancing, I was raised in a singing house. Both my father and my mother use to sing a lot (specially my mother; she and me sing very often in the car). TO get you a good example, I sung Lemon (U2!) in my 4th birthday party (there IS grapical documenta of it ...). Since a long ago I know tons and tons of lyrics, and I sing (loudly or quietly, or even for mylsef, or for my friends, or in the streets, or in the park, or through a microphone, or...) EVERY DAY And I'm proud of it. Even though I sing pretty well, a few years ago I sung much better than today (12 eyars old voice is much better than 18's one).

    I've played my granfa's Fender Mustang Bass a lot of times, but I just can jam along, or play some easy bass lines, nothing special. Although I have to recognise that me singing Walking On The Moon (The Police) and playing bass all along is VERY cool

    I dont have any drumming experience, altho my granfa's has a great Yamaha kit and some day I'm sure I will try it
  2. Although I'm a bass player I'm horrible at rhythm. When I play with others I'm tight, tight, tight but just on my own keeping time "blechhh"!! I really have to concentrate. In all fairness to myself it also depends on how long I've been playing during the session. If I'm good and warmed up then I'm better. Likewise with guitar.

    As for the drums..

    Metronome. Metronome. Metronome. That, anything that is sequenced (as the time won't shift) and/or a drummer that has solid time.

    All the above will help your time. Playing with sequencers improved Larry's time - tons! And it has been very helpful to me too.

    OK, OK, Dr. Rhythmn. I've got one and I practice with it. My problem lies with my ADD. I'll keep time with for a while and then check out. That's why I do so much better playing with others. I can anticipate the changes and it gives me way points in the song to go to and move from. Even repetitive songs like WOWY I'm killer as long as I'm playing with others. I also have great timing. Ask my wife.

    I began drumming at 11 and playing guitar at 32/33. I've played drums/percussion in everything from marching band, orchestra & wind ensemble, jazz band, rock bands... I played snare drum in The House of Scotland Pipe Band for 8 years (in San Diego/Balboa Park). So for me, drumming has helped my guitar playing, in that I started with a decent sense of time and understanding of rhythm.

    Even if one isn't taking up drums, bass, piano... full time... it seems that playing any other instruments help one on their main instrument. I know that playing guitar has also helped my drumming.

    What about you'z guy'z?

    Well, I can sing, but I'm not a singer per se. I think I have a decent voice, but it's very unrefined lol. People always say that you need to find your key, I haven't (yet!). I have a fairly musical family; my mum and her sisters used to sing in choirs from an early age, as did my dad, but he's more musical on an instrumental scale. Piano, violin, accordion to name a couple of things, and couple that with my older brother who started playing guitar about 10 years ago and you'll see the influences. I took up lessons in piano and flute for most of primary and high school before quitting, also started trombone, but then lost interest in music. That was rekindled when I took up guitar about 3-4 years ago, coupled with my blossoming interest in U2 . I taught myself to play piano again, and that really helped me learn the guitar from a theory basis, and I taught myself guitar too

    I played trumpet for a semester in 7th grade. It was requested that I stop.

    Good thing I learned drums and percussion.

    And in Edge/Guitar related stuff... wonder what, if any, guitar toys he got for his Birthday? I'd imagine something great. Maybe Moreight bought him some vintage Gibson or Martic acoustic or some great old Stratocaster or something?

    Then again... in Edge's case... he'd be just as happy getting his subscription to Astrophysicist and Scientific Digest renewed. Awwww... our lil genius.

    There are plenty of SHIT Fenders. There are some SHIT Epiphones.

    Epi SG's are abysmal. Most Epi LP's need the tuners swapped out and the pickups. That said, the `56 LP reissues with P-90 p'ups are lovely. Slash LP is lovely. Epi Explorers are fantastic. Epi Casino's are quite nice (and on my short-list of guitars to buy).

    Most Fenders that are under 599.99 - it's like the previously mentioned PayLess comment. Most under 600 are shite. Some of them can be saved with some upgrades and some not.


    I have a friend with a 61 reissue Epi SG that sounds good. Course hes one of those guys who are always doing little things to make there setup sound better.
