1. I've heard a version of "Trip through your wires" that begins with bono saying: "This is a song we originally wrote for Frank Sinatra, but then we found out he didn't know how to play the harmonica." Which version is this, and what bootleg is it from?

Also: I've noticed that when it comes to practically all not VERY popular bootleg song versions on U2start, it says that there's for example "two versions of this song", even if the song has been played hundreds of times. Why is this?

He said that on quite a lot of shows, probably most in fact - like he'd always dedicate SYCMIOYO (or sometimes Kite during the Elevation tour) to Bob Hewson, or the "Edge is from the future" speech (or the "we have faith in the future" speech) for Miracle Drug etc., it was along the same lines. Just a bit of showmanship really.

I'm not entirely sure I understand your question, but I think that what you're getting at is the contributions people have made about a song being good in a bootleg. Some songs only have a very few suggestions put forward, hence only two shows. It's supposed to be a guide to the very best performances of the song.
  4. Yes it is supposed to, but it should NOT state that "there ARE two versions of this song", when there are in fact a whole LOT more.

Furthermore, I don't care whether or not it's showmanship, and I'm only looking for the version in which he states EXACTLY those words (when he dedicated certain songs to his father he made different expressions practically each time).

To add another pointer however, I might add that the version was of high quality (at least four stars).

If you have any ideas or even guesses as to what version I might be referring to, please tell me.

    Thank you in advance!

provide me a link to see exactly what you are talking about
  6. I think its Denver 11-7-87.
  7. I thought so too, but it turns out that bootleg's version of the song has no such introduction.

Most likely as they'd just met Frank Sinatra in Vegas at the beginning of the tour. Nothing more, nothing less.

However, "Stay" was originally titled "Sinatra" and was to be a song if not for but certainly about Frank Sinatra... until Wim came asking for a tune for his movie.

(And yes, the movie version of "Stay" is different than the Zooropa version)
  9. Bono definitely said that in Denver, Colorado on 7th November 1987.

I've just listened to that version myself

    Peace!

I think you are confusing the word "contribution" with the word "version": when it says that there are two contributions for a song, that means that two people on U2start said that there was a particular show on which they thought that song was performed very well.
  11. mountains in a blue sky bootleg if i'm not mistaken sure it was mentioned other times on the tour as well in 87!!!!!
  12. Mountains in a blue sky? How am I supposed to know exactly what bootleg that is? :S

Any assistance decryptifying this code would be appreciated.

    Thanks!
