    No less painful than watching that DVD. If they release it in blu-ray some day then id consider it watchable.
  3. Ahh, Chicago...some standard performances, basic Vertigo. They really should release two DVD's for each tour. One before and one after. U2 earns the money and we at least have a good DVD. (I hope, considering an incomplete Milan)
  4. Just in case someone is planning to buy that Loreley "release" (which is a bootleg in fact) here's what someone who owns it said:

    Ok you know what? I'm comparing some more back and forth now. The new dvd is NOT widescreen, it's just enclosed in a box format, I now notice there are black bars on the sides as well. And now that I put it back in after taking another look at my bootleg, the bootleg is much clearer and better picture quality. Also the bootleg does sound better.
    One other thing, on Seconds my bootleg has a skip which I never knew if it was a flaw on my copy or in the recording. The dvd doesn't skip so the song is complete.

    If you don't already own this bootleg or don't have access to it then this dvd is well worth a great U2 show. If you already have this bootleg, you don't need this dvd.

    I received my DVD yesterday. The audio and video quality are like, well, a TV broadcast from 1983. The quality is good, but not what you would expect from a professionally mastered DVD these days. This is definitely a direct copy of the TV broadcast, right down to the WDR logo in the upper right corner of the screen. It does look like a first generation copy, though.

    There are absolutely no extras and the DVD menus are as bare bones as you can get, just "play all" or "chapter select."

    The aspect ratio is interesting. I'm watching on an upconverting Bluray player, and it appears to be mastered in a widescreen aspect ratio, but then there are thin black bars on each side, so it's wider that standard 4:3 but not as wide as 16. I don't know if that's German television or what. There's also a bit of color artifacting on the far right of the screen, the kind of thing that would be cut off by overscan in a typical TV broadcast.

    At any rate, this appears to be mastered directly from the original 1983 broadcast, it is what it is, and I consider it a very nice companion disc to the Red Rocks remaster later this month. It would have made a very nice bonus disc or easter egg with that release.

  9. I might buy it just out off nostalgia. Must be the same rip off feeling as when I was buying that shaky ZooTV Dortmund VHS for 60€ 15 years ago.

    Don't do it. You can get it for free in probably better quality everywhere on the net.
